Microsoft Cloud Operations + Innovation (CO+I) is the engine that powers Microsoft's cloud services and our team is focused on delivering high quality infrastructure to support cloud operations. As Microsoft’s Cloud business continues to mature, our infrastructure expansion accelerates, and Data Center’s (DC’s) are central to this growth. Cloud Operations + Innovation (CO+I) is responsible for planning, building and operating Microsoft’s cloud infrastructure DCs across the globe. Within CO+I, the organizational scope includes supply planning and strategic acquisition, global construction, DC and edge site operations, critical environment and availability, engineering, and DC innovation.
To help us accelerate achieving our objectives, growth, and transformation, the M&A Strategy Team is looking for an experienced Director - Strategy to oversee competitive intelligence, benchmarking, as well as strategic and tactical initiatives. The ideal candidate will have exceptional datacenter and cloud industry knowledge and extensive experience creating strategies for highly fluid environments. We are looking for a self-starter who is skilled at collaborating with a variety of internal and external stakeholders and is passionate about problem-solving.
In this role, you will work closely with peers with deep-expertise to plan, coordinate, and execute complex infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will have a bias for action, curiosity for the ‘whys,’ a proven ability to maintain an outcome-based viewpoint, and an ability to fail fast and learn.
- Lead our competitive intelligence and benchmarking efforts, providing key insights into the industry, markets, and our performance.
- Develop business processes, governance, and tools to enable strategic decision making and execution in support of our charter, meeting demanding requirements and timelines.
- Ideate, build, and execute the strategy needed to scale our execution capabilities.
- Present to executives key insights, outcomes, recommendations, and metrics and ensure the models and tooling are in place to track performance, filling gaps as needed.
- Demonstrate an ability to excel in an innovative, startup-like, fast-paced environment, with rapid exploration and ability to execute.
- Communicate succinctly and optimize interactions with executive stakeholders across multiple lines of business including engineering groups and strategic partners. Demonstrate cross group collaboration and the ability to influence and make decisions in partnerships with other teams and external partners.
- Lead and coordinate cross-team meetings to orchestrate a rigorous rhythm of business that operationalizes process and drives quality and consistency.
Required qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience in Program Management, Business Operations or Key Support Role of Program Management, Infrastructure Strategy, Business Development, or Management Consulting
- OR 10+ years’ experience in competitive intelligence, benchmarking or hyperscale infrastructure leadership
- OR equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of experience with the Data Center industry, global operators, and market dynamics.
Preferred qualifications:
- Knowledge of real estate and mission critical environments, such as Data Centers.
- Previous experience in competitive intelligence and benchmarking.
- Experience working with a multi-regional, diverse team and individuals.
- Problem solving and strategic thinking skills with an enthusiasm for understanding how things work and bringing structure to an ambiguous environment.
- Ability to evolve a given process or technology in a minimal amount of time.
- Experience with a metric-driven mindset and the ability to experiment, learn, and improve.
Real Estate Portfolio Management IC6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $124,800 - $266,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $159,000 - $292,200 per year.
