We leverage our diversity to be better and build capability for now and future generations.About the roleWe are looking for a Superintendent Land Management to oversee the strategy and execution of key environmental programs to fulfill the operating and closure requirements in relation to regulatory and stakeholder expectations.This role is a great opportunity for an experienced delivery-focused environmentalist to contribute to the success of the Ranger Rehabilitation Project, whilst advancing their career with a global mining leader. Working a 14 days on, 7 days off roster, and reporting to the Manager Site Rehabilitation and Services, you will be:Leading operational teams to ensure safe and timely delivery of Land & Rehabilitation programs, inclusive of:Natural resource management (weed, feral animal & fire management programs performed by operational crew members);Key rehabilitation research including ecology and ecosystems reconstructionEnvironmental monitoring, including revegetation and associated monitoring for the water, landform, radiation and cultural themes.Waste management (day-to-day site waste management and legacy waste disposal)Oversight of strategic local contracting partners and indigenous groups for the collection of seeds and broader land management activities in line with the project objectives;Developing and sustaining positive relationships with internal stakeholders, andFostering strong external relationships with key environmental stakeholders, including traditional owners and technical government subject matter experts.Support the cultural reconnection program and associated cultural criteria monitoring and assessment.To succeed in this role, you will have:Qualifications in environmental science, engineering or related discipline;Experience with land management, rehabilitation strategy or closure activities and associated management programs;Proven experience with leading a multi-disciplinary team, preferably in a project context;Capability to engage with various internal and external stakeholders with a demonstrated ability to influence others;Experience with safely delivering on operational commitments within a challenging and changing project environment and;Team Player with the ability to coach others and mentor and develop an indigenous workforce.What we offerBe recognised for your contribution, your thinking and your hard work, and go home knowing you've helped the world progress.A safety-focused and inclusive working environmentA competitive salary package with annual cash incentive awards (STIP)Access to top tier family-friendly health and medical programsLeave for all of life's reasons (vacation/annual, paid parental, sick leave, cultural leave)Ongoing individual wellbeing support for you and your family for personal and professional mattersGenerous Rio Tinto employee share programPossible domestic relocation assistance on offerIndigenous Advisors are always there for our Indigenous employees and available to support through any aspect of your employmentIndigenous leadership programmes across professional and operational roles to ensure that we are developing Indigenous Leaders.Extensive salary sacrifice & salary packaging optionsWho we areEnergy Resources of Australia Ltd (ERA) is a publicly listed company with Rio Tinto as its major shareholder. ERA, established in 1979, previously mined and produced uranium oxide from its Ranger mine in the beautiful and rugged Alligator Rivers area of the Northern Territory. The Ranger mine is located on Aboriginal land, surrounded by, but currently separate from, Kakadu National Park.ERA's production operations on the Ranger Project Area ceased in January 2021, with the major focus now shifting to the comprehensive world-class rehabilitation of the Ranger mine that will eventually allow it to be incorporated back into the Kakadu National Park should the Traditional Owners and the Commonwealth Government wish.The Ranger Rehabilitation Project is the largest project of its kind in Australia and possibly the world. It is unique in that it is rehabilitating land in one of the world's most culturally and environmentally sensitive locations, surrounded by the World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park on the land of the Mirarr Traditional Owners, located three hours southeast of Darwin.Closing date: 31st July 2024Rio Tinto
