Blyth Academy is searching for a qualified guidance counsellor to work with the rest of the campus team to help each student reach their full potential. The Guidance Counsellor is responsible for providing counseling and assistance to all students and enable effective communication between the teacher and student while offering a supportive and open environment that builds confidence and promotes communication.ResponsibilitiesCounseling all students grade 9-12 on secondary course selection over four terms.Supporting and counseling students (and parents) on the post-secondary application process.Managing the Ontario University Applications (OUAC), Ontario CollegeApplications (OCAS) and support students interested in other Canadian postsecondary options.Assisting students interested in international post-secondary applications. This process may be initiated in grade 11 where S.A.T.s results are required.Working with teachers, parents and students on grade 9 transition.Overseeing the application of Student Support Plans, providing support to teachers and students as necessaryUndertaking guidance administrative work, such as report cards, transcripts, etc.Overseeing the maintenance of the OSRs.Assisting the Principal in course scheduling and timetabling.Assisting with admissions, interviews and follow-up as needed.Assisting with Academy presentations and parent teacher interviews.Compiling a list of Community Resources for students and recommend as needed.Discuss opportunities to study abroad or do academic exchanges with partner schools.Primary follow-up on attendance/late issues with students & parents.Overseeing community service and extra-curricular programs for students.Handling inquires as needed concerning full-time, night-school, summer school courses, and private studies.Knowledgeable on all Blyth Academy services and able to provide families with the necessary decision-making informationIdentifying opportunities for and supporting community outreach/engagement activitiesAble and available to conduct family tours at campusProvide in person support for on and off campus recruitment events, info sessions and presentationsDaily and as required updates in the CRM; On-going database management to ensure that an organized database is maintainedManaging re-enrolment and retention activitiesSocial media updates reflecting campus events/activitiesSupporting campus aesthetics improvements (observations/recommendations)Supporting central marketing in gathering student testimonials, program information or other contentOther duties as assigned by the Principal or Head of Guidance.RequirementsCollege diploma or University degree preferredMinimum of two years’ experience in a secondary school Guidance roleFamiliarity with the OSSD and university program requirements (including EQAO, OUAC, ONSIS, OSR, inspection, competitions, etc.)Understands the regulations behind OSR management (creating, transfer, closing, maintenance)Familiarity with Trevlac, Edsby, and attendance management systems strongly preferredHas great patience, approachable to students, responsible when completing tasks and answering student inquiriesCapable to work in a high-pressure multitasking environmentPrevious experience with international students highly preferredExcellent use of the Microsoft Suite, especially Word, Excel, PowerPointHighly organized, the ability to multitask efficiently will be a strong asset in this position.Diplomatic, resilient, and adaptable to shifting prioritiesEmpathetic and dedicated to students’ well-beingOpenness to diversity and willingness to effectively manage and foster a positive environment within a caring communityGoal and Service Oriented – actively looks for ways to assist and implement new ideasBlyth Academy
