Probation/Trial Period: 910 working hours or six (6) months, whichever occurs firstHours: 0-20 hours per weekFunding: BudgetStart Date: August 28, 2024Location: Winnipeg, MBJob Type: TermStatus: ExistingDate Posted: 07/25/2024Closing Date: 08/05/2024Salary Range: $17.26 to $23.98 per hour + 6% vacation pay*This is a term position from August 28, 2024 – June 27, 2025*The Collegiate is a unit of The University of Winnipeg, and is an independent high school which offers a Manitoba accredited Grade 9-12 High School program for approximately 400-450 domestic and international students annually. The University of Winnipeg Collegiate offers an On-Campus Residence Program to international students. This program allows for robust monitoring of international student wellness and academic success, and the ability to provide enhanced student life programming and cultural experiences.The Student Care Monitor is a part-time term position responsible for providing a positive living and learning environment for Collegiate residents. The Student Care Monitor will be responsible for ensuring the wellness, providing mentorship and caretaking of Collegiate residents. They will also facilitate daily programming that encourages and promotes connections, support, and leadership development among Collegiate residents.Responsibilities:Assist the International Program Coordinator in the planning, organizing and supervision of socio-cultural activities, orientation and daily events.Assist with transporting residents to and from activities via school bus, walking, ride share, university transportation, and public transportation.Monitor residents during residence activities and during shifts, and immediately report any problems, emergencies, or concerns.Monitor and enforce safety regulations and policies.Serve as a positive role model by providing mentorship to residents and developing meaningful and approachable relationships.Build and foster cohesion among residents and encourage a sense of community.Interact with residents to facilitate English language development.Act as an ambassador of the University of Winnipeg Collegiate as well as Canadian culture.Support residents in developing and enhancing various living skills, such as cleanliness, hygiene and self-care, time-management, budgeting, grocery shopping, etc.Follow up with resident inquires within a reasonable timeframe and assist residents with completing maintenance form when service is required.Attend weekly meetings with International Program Coordinator.Qualifications:High School completion or equivalentUniversity degree in progress is considered an asset.Experience as an international student or working with EAL students is considered an asset.Strong spoken and written communication skills is required.Ability to speak a language other than English is considered an asset.Ability to work independently and within a team.Ability to work and communicate in a cross-cultural work environment.Ability to follow oral and written instructions.Ability to communicate effectively with staff, students and stakeholders.Ability to work under general supervision.Class 5 driver’s license is an asset.Additional training in relation to sexual violence, mental health and suicide prevention, and First Aid & CPR training is an asset.An equivalent combination of education, experience, skills, knowledge and abilities may be considered.Condition(s) of Employment:Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.Ability to work evenings and occasional weekends required.
