To support the Nursery Manager to deliver effective management of All Aboard Nursery, in accordance with spirit and aspiration of the Brunel Academies Trust, all relevant legislation, local authority and OFSTED requirements.
- To support the All Aboard nursery manager to discharge their duties. For example, acting as the nursery manager when the nursery manager is away from the setting or unavailable and providing support to staff, children and parents as guided by the nursery manager.
- To be flexible within the working practices of the nursery. To understand and promote the inclusive ethos of the All Aboard Nursery.
- To use your understanding of autism to lead learning and development across the setting within a safe, nurturing and caring ASD/SCID friendly environment
- To develop strong relationships and bonds with the staff team providing support to colleagues using your experience and knowledge to help mentor them and guide their practice.
- To support the manager in addressing any performance or disciplinary issues in a consistent and timely manner, ensuring staff team know the expectation of the management team through role modeling, policy implementation and the Appraisal Framework.
- To provide positive and constructive feedback to the staff team using nursery experiences to help develop the strength of the team and develop their leadership skills.
- To support the Nursery Manager to work in partnership with parents and other professionals to ensure that broad based support for parents and families affected by autism and SCID is at the heart of the All Aboard Nursery offer.
- Maintain a flexible approach to the work of the nursery in response to the needs of children, families and staff.
Key Responsibilities
- To promote the aims and objectives of the All Aboard Nursery
- To promote the high standards of the All Aboard Nursery at all times to parents/carers, staff and visitors;
- To deputise for the All Aboard Nursery Manager in their absence.
- To ensure the All Aboard Nursery maintains a high standard of physical and emotional care;
- To be responsible for the Health and Safety standards appropriate for the needs of young children and ensuring staff compliance and awareness;
- To assist the manager in setting and implementing objectives and policy for the All Aboard
Nursery

- To assist with the development and implementation of systems to monitor and record child development. To further contribute to the assessment of children in relation to their presenting
ASC/SCID needs and to provide written reports/record as necessary for parents, other professionals such as paediatricians, SENAT, TAC and CHIN processes as needed.
- To attend meetings including TAC and CHIN meetings; contribute to transition to school planning and where needed take an active role in implementing/supporting arrangements for transition to education/school placements.
- To assist with the preparation and maintenance of materials and equipment and assist the manager with the efficient upkeep of the building and maintenance/stock of equipment, furnishings and fittings;
- To ensure high standards of hygiene and cleanliness are maintained at all times;
- To ensure the All Aboard Nursery maintains a high quality environment to meet the needs of individual children affected by ASC/SCID and other special needs
- Develop strong relationships with parents, carers and other family members.
- To liaise with outside agencies as required;
- To actively promote and support the safeguarding of children and young people in the workplace, ensuring that all staff and volunteers observe All Aboard Nursery policies and procedures to keep children safe from harm.
Key duties in relation to staff and operational management
- Support the All Aboard Nursery Manager to leads a team of professional workers and to ensure good practice at all times;
- To assist with staff development and training; attend staff / planning meetings and training sessions outside working hours if required
- To assist the manager in the supervision of the training of students in placement within the All
Aboard Nursery.
- To assist with the planning and organisation of staffing schedules and holiday rotas to ensure adequate staffing levels are maintained in accordance with Brunel Academies Trust guidelines and procedures.
- Plans, manages and implements the annual appraisal process, liaising with the ASC/SCID
Lead/BASIS Leadership Team on the reward and remuneration.
- When deputising for the Nursery Manager the All Aboard Deputy Manager will manage the operational framework and standards to ensure the smooth running of All Aboard Nursery at all times.
- The Deputy Manager will ensures that All Aboard Nursery procedures on safeguarding and child protection are adhered to supporting the nursery manager and where needed liaising directly with the BASIS Leadership Team and local social services such as MASH as required.
- When deputising the Deputy Manager will ensure the highest standard of safety and security within the All Aboard nursery in particular that security systems are always fully operational and used properly by all staff.
- When deputising the Deputy Manager will take responsibility for all health and safety issues within All Aboard Nursery, ensuring compliance with the Brunel Academies Trust Health and
Safety Policy and according to the EYFS Statutory Framework.
Curriculum development and best child care practice
- The Deputy manager will work in partnership with the Nursery Manager and the ARC specialist school’s team to contribute to the development of an innovative and creative curriculum and environment for learning and play that addresses the specific developmental needs of
ASC/SCID affected young children and that follows the EYFS Statutory Framework

- In partnership with All Aboard Nursery colleagues and the wider BASIS team, deliver the care standards and educational programme on an on-going basis, taking into account any equality and diversity requirements.
- Contribute as directed by the manager to individual records of all children’s developmental progress including leading on day to day observations and regular assessments.
- Support the All Aboard Nursery Manager to ensure the implementation of the Special
Educational Needs Code of Practice and when required and under the direction of the manager, liaise with all BASIS ASC Specialists and Swindon Early Years advisors in matters relating to children with special educational needs.
Parental involvement: managing relationships and sharing information
- Build strong parent/carer relationships through day to day liaison with parents, supporting the nursery staff team to resolve any issues as they arise.
- Act a role model and deliver childcare in a way that meets parents’ needs and works in partnership with them to provide the highest quality of care at all times.
Liaison with outside agencies and other parties
- Takes particular responsibility for leading on outreach support for children affected by
ASD/SCID affected children who are attending Swindon mainstream nurseries and other pre- school settings.
- In partnership with the manager maintain strong communication and positive relationships with
All Aboard’s neighbours quickly resolving any difficulties that may arise particularly with reference to shared site usage.

This job is exempt under the Exceptions Orders to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.
Appointment to this job is subject to an enhanced DBS disclosure being obtained, and any relevant cautions, convictions, bindover orders and warnings being considered.

Provision’s Health and Safety Policy, and in any risk assessments relevant to the jobholder’s role or circumstances. Both can be accessed via the jobholder’s line manager, and the jobholder is required to comply with these and to use any protective clothing or equipment as instructed at all times.

The jobholder is expected to comply with the provisions of the Data Protection Act 2018. Any information they have access to, or are responsible for, must be managed appropriately and any requirements for confidentiality and security observed. Information must not be disclosed to any person or Authority, for example a parent or the Police, without observing the correct procedure for disclosure as set out in the Education Provision’s Data Protection Policy. Nothing shall prevent the jobholder from disclosing information that they are entitled to disclose under the Public Interest disclosure Act 1998 as amended, provided that the disclosure is made in accordance with the provisions of that Act/s.
