Personal Support WorkerLooking for one PSW to work at Wellington Terrace in Burlington OntarioPart-Time 30 hours biweeklyMixed Shifts: 7am- 12pm, 7am- 3pm & 3pm-11pm ShiftsMust be available to work every other weekend.POSITION SUMMARY:The Personal Support Workers – Wellington Terrace Supportive Housing enhance the quality of life of SJHC clients by providing quality and compassionate care in the form of personal care assistance, medication reminders, physical and cognitive support and home keeping assistance. PSW assists in enabling individuals to continue living independently in a safe and healthy manner in their own home/apartment units, within the Wellington Terrace program location and surrounding community.Wellington Terrace Supportive Housing clients are typically able to direct their own care, are over the age of 65, require on average 1.5 hours of personal support care each day, and are medically stable.RESPONSIBILITIES:Assisting clients with daily personal care activities, in keeping with their individual care plan such as bathing, dressing, shaving, personal hair care, mouth care, preventative care and other personal hygiene tasksAssisting clients with daily housekeeping activities such as light apartment housekeeping, laundry services and meal preparationAssisting clients in daily activities which maintain adequate levels of physical health and safety, in keeping with their individual care planMedication remindersEngaging clients in positive/social conversationsEncouraging clients to direct and/or participate in their own careAssisting clients with general mobility needs (walking, movement, positioning etc.) in and around their home and the Wellington Terrace locationEncouraging participation in Wellington Terrace social and/or recreational activitiesDemonstrating sensitivity and respect to clients who may be experiencing physical health challengesProviding emotional and social support to both clients and their family membersDemonstrating a positive attitude and approach towards clients as unique individualsPerforms daily work in keeping with the established Supportive Housing procedures, processes and expectationsAnswers call bells in a safe and timely mannerObserves and records client information/comments/issues/behaviours/changes on the 24 Hour Shift ReportFollows daily client care schedules as determined by the Support Services CoordinatorMaintains a clean and organized work environmentReports critical client care information/issues to Support Services Coordinator right awayUnderstands and follows individual client care plans, seeks clarification from the Support Services Coordinator where care plan in unclearParticipating in team/group meetingsOther duties as requested or requiredQUALIFICATIONS:PSW Certificate from an accredited training institution, required1-3 years PSW experience, preferredMember of the PSW Registry, preferred (may be required under some contracts)Current First Aid and/or CPR Certificate, preferredTraining in gentle persuasive/non-violent crisis prevention, an assetTraining and previous work experience in Medication Reminders, preferredPrevious experience working in a Supportive Housing environment, as assetAccess to reliable transportation and vehicle insurance, requiredMust be COVID 19 vaccinatedSt. Joseph’s Home Care is an equal opportunity employer and strives for equity, inclusiveness, and diversity in all our programs, practices, facilities, and people.
