Assistant Financial AccountantSuncorp currently have a vacancy available for Assistant Financial Accountant to join our Financial Control team who provide services to the Finance Community to ensure strong financial control across the Suncorp Group.This role relates to the close and reconciliations procedures relating to Insurance Group monthly close and reconciliation procedures, including accruals and intercompany journals.The primary purpose of this role is to:Ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of insurance accounting including accurate balance sheet reconciliation service functions, and payments and reportingEnsuring that financial controls are in place and followed to safeguard the integrity of the accounting and reporting for general insurance businessFollow the Financial Control month end close process including assisting with the preparation of journals and balance sheet reconciliationsContinuous improvement of process to affect a shortening of the number of days from month end to ledger close and reporting.What you'll doMonthly, quarterly and year-end financial reporting & reconciliations for the Suncorp General Insurance entities:Assist with the review and analyse the daily workflow, quality and timeliness of reconciliations and related processes, and, where necessary, work with the relevant Technology or business team to support resolution of issues.Escalate any high risk issues promptly to Senior Accountant - Financial Control and Offshore Team Leader Reconciliation Services.Assist with ensuring that designated reconciliations and accruals/journals are performed in an accurate and timely manner according to timetables and ensure that they conform to guidelines and/or procedures.Assist with the approval and review of monthly journals and identify opportunities for standardisation and process improvement (embed the standardised journal process and templates)Contribute to the quarterly, half-year and annual statutory, regulatory and management reporting requirements.What you'll bring2+ years accounting experience in the financial services industry with emphasis on General Ledger accounting, regulatory and financial reporting where large computerised systems are utilised.Strong communication and interpersonal skills required, both written and verbalExcellent relationship and service levels with customers/stakeholdersLiaising with external and internal auditors in relation to the audit action items including prompt resolutionImplementing and complying with the Group's accounting policiesProactively identify and implement (either alone or as part of a collaboration) initiatives to improve the effectiveness of financial reporting processes currently undertaken within the team and by our offshore partners..Create, maintain and promote an environment that encourages wellbeing and safety.What we can offer youSuncorp's employee benefits are designed to support, empower and reward our people.
