Reporting to the Branch Manager, the Sample Preparation Technician is responsible for the processing of customer samples by following established standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safe practices. Work conditions include: sedentary work, as well as dusty and noisy work environment involving medium to heavy lifting (must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs for 10 feet) and repetitive tasks. There may be some exposure to flammable material and moving mechanical parts. Travel/driving for business purposes. Must be able to operate a forklift and pallet jack.JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:Comply with the OHS Act and Regulations, BV Group Policy and Procedures, Upstream Minerals Management System Policies and Procedures and ISO standards applicable to the Sample Preparation technician position.Act in a safe and professional manner and wear appropriate attire including the required personal protective equipment (PPE).Carry out Sample Preparation procedures in accordance with documented SOPs and other work instructions.Ensure proper functioning of Sample Preparation operations by:Monitoring the performance of the Sample Preparation equipmentEnsuring adequate inventory of consumable supplies and chemicalsPracticing good housekeeping.Communicate general laboratory issues to the Branch Manager as appropriate.Report any deviation(s) from documented procedures to the Branch Manager.Report any unsafe condition(s) observed in the department to the Branch Manager.Report any non-conforming work related to customer samples and associated test data to the Branch Manager.Submit to testing for silica exposure on a regular basis.Operate vehicles in the company fleet for the purpose of picking up client samples and supplies.Inspect the forklift and company vehicles prior to use and record inspections as required.Liaise with clients in a professional manner during sample pick-ups.Ensure proper sample or supply pick-up operations by:Ensuring all required documentation is completed, such as Sample Chain of CustodyEnsuring that fleet security is maintained at all timesCommunicate general fleet issues to the Branch Manager as appropriate.Communicate any client issues to the Branch Manager as appropriate.Perform other duties as assigned by management.External Job Description and ProfileSAMPLE PREP TECHNICIAN - ELKO, NVPAY: $18.00 Per HourShift: Monday - Friday, 6:00am - 2:30pm (Overtime, as needed).JOB SUMMARY: (This position will both work on the floor as a sample preparation tech (primary) and a driver when there is driving needed.)Job Description provided is the combination of both tasks.
