Grand Central Bakery is seeking an experienced kitchen manager for our Portland Commissary Kitchen. The Commissary Kitchen prepares products for our area cafes including soups, meats and cheeses, sauces, and salads. The Kitchen Manager has direct contact with our growers and engages in farm-direct purchasing from local, sustainable vendors.If you are looking a great position with daytime hours, a stable and experienced kitchen team, and a regular production schedule, apply today!The Kitchen Manager oversees all Commissary Kitchen (CK) operations in support of Grand Central Bakery’s (GCB) mission to serve our customers delicious, authentic food made from high quality local and sustainable ingredients. Developing skilled and passionate workers whose mission is to create the highest quality and most delicious products efficiently and safely is a core responsibility. With guidance from the Commissary Operations Manager (COM), the Kitchen Manager is responsible for ensuring the kitchen staff has the tools, knowledge, systems, and support in place to produce consistent products of exceptional quality within the parameters of GCB’s mission and financial goals.Salary: $64,609 full-time, annual equivalentSchedule: As a full-time, exempt employee, the Kitchen Manager typically works 5 days a week with flexibility to adjust schedule around special projects and may be required to work extra hours and/or days on an irregular basis due to unforeseen circumstances and emergencies.Location: This position is located at the Grand Central Bakery Commissary Kitchen, 714 N. FremontPortland, OR 97227Knowledge, skills, and abilities:Must be at least 18 years oldAbility to read, write, and speak English required; English/Spanish bilingual preferred.Maintains a valid Food Handler's Card at all times and follows health department regulations at all times.Knowledge of all health department regulations concerning food production and handling required.Must be able to add, subtract and multiply with ease and accuracy.Intermediate computer skills including use of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word or comparable programs required. ERP experience preferred.3 or more years’ experience leading a team required; team management experience highly preferredExperience managing a professional kitchen including utilizing and teaching kitchen skills, developing recipes, cost management required.FSPCA Certified or ability to gain FSPCA certification required.Experience and commitment to sustainable food production and purchasing required.Experience with and commitment to farm direct purchasing, cost control, and maintaining vendor relationships required.Company OverviewGrand Central Bakery ignited a bread revolution in 1989 by introducing rustic artisan loaves to Northwest tables.
