We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive faculty and staff.Pediatrics' Division of General Pediatrics has an outstanding opportunity for a Temporary (Less than 12-month position) Research Scientist Assistant.The purpose of this position is to analyze and obtain data on vehicle police pursuits in the state of Washington to inform the state legislature on appropriate statewide data collection efforts and policies. They will report directly to the project Principal Investigator (PI), Dr. Fred Rivara and will be based at the Harborview Injury Prevention and Research Center (HIPRC) on the Harborview Medical Center campus.Responsibilities include but are not limited to:The Research Scientist Assistant is responsible for assisting with the following on the Police Pursuits Project:Collecting and reviewing data, conducting advanced analyses on data for research project.Contribute to design, data collection, and analysis for aims of research project.Provide quality control and project oversight on data collection, implementation, and managementReviewing, Collecting and Conducting Analysis on Data for ResearchSupport in conducting and coding qualitative interviews related to police pursuits under supervision.Under direct supervision, conduct data review and analysis of qualitative data for the research project.Implement established protocols and systems for data analysis.Assist with developing presentations or materials for external dissemination.Assist team members in analyzing stratified samples of nonaccredited agencies.Contribute to Design, Analysis and Data CollectionAssist with the creation of study instruments for qualitative interviews, surveys, and policy data abstraction.Assess and verify data quality for research, publications, and presentations.Quality Control and Data Collection ManagementAid the team with the collection of data from police agencies, which will be used in reports and publications.Assist with data collections on vehicular pursuits from those agencies accredited by Washington Association of Sheriffs & Police Chiefs (WASPC).Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree in public health, public policy, sociology, or any related field and less than year of appropriate experience in academic research OR equivalent education/experienceStrong oral and written communication skillsProficient with the Microsoft office suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.Application Process:The application process for UW positions may include completion of a variety of online assessments to obtain additional information that will be used in the evaluation process.
