In our department, you will work at the heart of the most rapidly developing technology humankind has ever seen.Your opportunity:Reporting to the Director, Administration & Finance, the incumbent will oversee the financial management, including budget, strategic planning, forecasting, monitoring and analysis on complex research grant funding, and operating budgets.The incumbent ensures that all business and payroll transactions are aligned with the generally accepted accounting principles, the University's financial policies and guidelines, the procurement policies, and sponsor funding policies.Your responsibilities will include:Overseeing the financial management of budgets that include strategic planning, analysis and forecastingForecasting, planning and monitoring multiple complex budgetsAdvising staff on accounting practices and University financial policies and proceduresInterpreting and applying policies and procedures when making independent decisionsForecasting and planning financial activities incorporating budgets with multiple sources of revenue and/or recoveriesPlanning and overseeing short and long range activities that support financial administrationAnalyzing financial processes and procedures and recommending changes for improvementMonitoring, recording, reconciling and/or reporting on funding accounts for grants and contractsEssential Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Business Administration, or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience. Completion of a recognized professional program (e.g. CPA) is preferredMinimum five (5) years of administrative and financial management experience, preferably in a university/higher education setting, with an emphasis on accountingExperience in finance modeling, budget control, forecasting and the preparation of financial reports and analysisExperience conducting financial trend analysis and proposing effective strategiesExperience with financial and procurement policies and procedures of the University of Toronto and their applicationDemonstrated experience and full knowledge of general accounting principles, collective agreements or other related financial policies and proceduresDemonstrated experience with financial reporting, payroll, purchasing and lease agreements, and internal control principlesExperience with University budget, financial and administrative policies, procedures and guidelinesAdvanced skills with Microsoft Office 365 (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access, SharePoint, Teams)Good working knowledge of data visualization tools (e.g. Tableau)Expert knowledge of the University's Financial Information System (FIS), Human Resources Information System (HRIS), and Research Information System (RIS) and/or other related financial systemsHigh level of initiative and ability to organize and communicate statistical and financial information to non-financial staff and faculty at all levelsExcellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, organizational, analytical, leadership and decision-making skillsDemonstrated strong client service orientationAbility to manage conflicting priorities, multi-task, and have excellent attention to detail and accuracyAbility to maintain confidentialityApplicants are also expected to show evidence of a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and the promotion of a respectful and collegial learning and working environmentTo be successful in this role you will be:ApproachableCommunicatorDecisiveOrganizedProblem solverResourcefulClosing Date: 08/02/2024, 11:59PM ETEmployee Group: USWAppointment Type: Budget - ContinuingSchedule: Full-TimePay Scale Group & Hiring Zone:USW Pay Band 15 -- $95,627. with an annual step progression to a maximum of $122,290.
