UHN is a caring, creative place where amazing people are amazing the world.Job DescriptionUnion: ONASite: Toronto Western HospitalDepartment: 5A Spinal/NeurosurgeryReports to: Nurse ManagerHours: 37.5 hours per weekSalary: $39.07 - $56.00 (start rate in accordance with collective agreement requirments)Shifts: Days/Nights/Weekends/Holidays 0730-1930 / 1930-0730Status: Permanent Full- TimeClosing Date: July 11, 2024Position SummaryLocated at the heart of downtown Toronto, The Krembil Brain Institute at Toronto Western Hospital is home to one of the world's largest neurosurgical program consisting of world leading spinal, neurosurgical teams and the most comprehensive multidisciplinary teams working hand-in-hand to prevent and confront problems of the brain and spine. As part of the Krembil Brain Institute, the spinal unit is a University Health Network Centre of Excellence. The University Health Network (UHN) is looking for highly motivated professionals to fill the key role of a Registered Nurse in our Spine/Neurosurgery Department. We hire and train newly graduated nurses.Our 24-bed unit is a specialized spine unit within the Krembil Brain Institute (KBI) and one of a few in the country. Our patients range from those having neurosurgical spine, orthopedic spine and procedures to those experiencing emergent infectious, oncological, and traumatic processes with potentially devastating consequences. We also care for patients with other neurological/neurosurgical indications. Common diagnoses we encounter include spinal stenosis, herniated discs, spinal cord injuries, spinal tumors and abscesses, neurological disorders, and chronic pain disorders.As a member multi-disciplinary Team, the REGISTERED NURSE practices in accordance with relevant legislation/standards, the UHN Professional Practice Model and the mission and vision of nursing at the UHN to provide compassionate, collaborative and competent care, while meeting the legal and ethical requirements of the profession.DutiesApplying knowledge of nursing science, theory, skill and critical decision making in the provision of compassionate, collaborative and competent care in accordance with the UHN Professional Practice Model for Nursing and the mission and vision of nursing at the UHN.Ensuring practice is consistent with professional standards and the ethical framework as outlined by the College of Nurses of Ontario and the UHN policy and procedure.Demonstrating commitment to professional life long learning by participating in continuing education activities to meet the needs of the patient population served and the standards of the profession.Performing reflective practice, analyzing and evaluating nursing knowledge and modifying practice accordingly to improve the quality of nursing and patient care.Performing cross-functional and other responsibilities, as assigned and/or requested.QualificationsCurrent Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario requiredBasic Cardiac Life Support Certification requiredFlexible and able to work effectively and efficiently within a interdisciplinary patient care teamNew graduates are welcome to applyMust be able to meet the physical requirements of the positionExcellent interpersonal, communication and decision making skillsExcellent organizational and time management skillsExcellent computer skillsBScN degree preferredNeurosurgery & Spinal experience preferredVaccines (COVID-19 and others) are a requirement of the job unless you have an exemption on a medical ground pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights Code.Additional InformationWhy join UHN?In addition to working alongside some of the most talented and inspiring healthcare professionals in the world, UHN offers a wide range of benefits, programs and perks.
