Talk to us about how this could work for you.Working EnvironmentTasmania Prison Service (TPS) has prison facilities located at Risdon Vale, Hobart, and Launceston. This position is based at Risdon Vale in the TPS People and Culture Unit, located in the Training Building.The Risdon Vale site offers a corporate working environment without the hustle and bustle of city centre offices, free on-site parking and access to the on-site staff gym (or head across the road to Risdon Brook Dam for a walk at lunch time). The Training Building has an attached outdoor area where we can enjoy our lunchtimes... weather permitting! We are a short drive to local shops and services, however there is no need to worry about parking when you return as there is plenty (and did we mention it's free!?).The TPS People and Culture Unit encompasses recruiting, training, rosters, absence management and general human resources support for the TPS. We are a small team and work closely and collaboratively with the Department of Justice's central human resources team, and other Outputs.Period of AppointmentPermanent from as soon as possible.This role is newly funded to support the Tasmania Prison Service (TPS) implement a broad range of recommendations from a recent audit, address historical matters and maintain a high performing and resourced absence management unit.*Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar permanent, fixed-term, full time, part time and/or casual vacancies.Hours per fortnight73.50 hours per fortnight - flexible options available.This is day work position working weekdays. Starting salary negotiable within this range subject to experience in a similar role. Annual salary increase within this range in accordance with the Tasmanian State Service Award and Public Service Union Wages Agreement.In addition to the salary:11.5% super.4 weeks annual leave per year, plus access to purchased leave, leave without pay and State Service accumulated leave scheme.Free parking on-site at Risdon.Access to the on-site staff gym for a modest fortnightly fee.Life-work balance including job share, work from home, condensed hours and a range of other flexible working options (subject to operational requirements and approval of course!).Learning, development and career progression opportunities across Tasmania.Access to salary packaging and discounted private health insurance.Access to a free, confidential Employee Assistance Program and a range of other service via our dedicated Wellbeing and Support team.DutiesCoordinate the accurate and timely provision of leave across the service including reconciling leave types, durations and accruals, and documentation of approvals and supporting evidence.Understand, interpret and apply legislation, industrial awards and agreements and other relevant frameworks to absence and leave management matters.Undertake investigations into historical leave matters and make recommendations to the Delegate to rectify these including recovery of costs.In consultation with HR Payroll Services, process historical leave applications submitted by staff through Employee Self Service, ensuring rostered shifts and hours align to the TPS rostering system, TimeFiler.Provide high-level advice, reports and other correspondence in relation to absence and leave management to a broad range of stakeholders including employees, senior management and reporting bodies.Engage with employees in relation to sensitive HR matters such as under/over payment and recovery of costs in a sensitive and confidential manner.Undertake case management of assigned reconciliation matters.Contribute to the ongoing development, administration and monitoring of databases, systems and policies.Provide assistance and support to the Principal Consultant - Leave and Absence Management and other members of the TPS People and Culture Branch as directed by the Assistant Director People and Culture, (Tasmania Prison Service).Pre-employment ChecksThe Head of State Service has determined that the person nominated for this vacancy is to satisfy a pre-employment check before taking up the appointment, promotion or transfer.The following checks are to be conducted:1.
