The Radiotherapy Department based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham has a vacancy for a Senior Therapeutic Radiographer role. This role has been generously funded by the Giles Trust for three years. After the three years, the post will revert to being a fully clinical Senior radiographer role if further funding has not been obtained, so is being offered as a permanent position. The purpose of the role is
- To collect outcome data for patients treated with Cyberknife radiosurgery at UHB .
- To support the development of a research platform capable of collecting quality of life outcome data within a national prospective study that will inform wider practice .
- To improve access to clinical trials involving radiotherapy for both adults and children with brain tumours
- Work clinically at least 1 day per week (will be more in the short term as the post holder becomes trained in the stereotactic radiosurgery workflow).
We are committed to having state of the art technology for our patients and an equipment replacement programme is ongoing. We already have a wide variety of highly specialised radiotherapy equipment including 2 CT scanners, CyberKnife, two Tomotherapy HD units, HDR, deep x-ray and five linear accelerators; all of which have XVI. A new Tomotherapy Radixact is currently being commissioned and will open in May 2023.
Applicants must hold a BSc (Hons) in Therapeutic Radiography or equivalent and have experience working as a therapeutic radiographer.
In addition to responsibilities for the Giles Trust project, the post holder will also be involved in the day-to-day treatment and imaging of patients in the treatment or pre-treatment area, including student training support. The post holder will take a role in the current and future development of staff and services within Radiotherapy.
Professional development is high on our agenda and we have a commitment to Radiographer led services, with role advancement offered or actively being developed. All staff will be required to have a flexible approach to working hours to accommodate service demands as there is a requirement to routinely cover extended day working, Monday to Friday between 7.30am to 8pm. In addition there is a requirement to work bank holidays and some occasional weekend working in line with NRAG recommendations. There is also a requirement to participate in the weekend and bank holiday on call service.

Qualified Radiographer (eg. Diploma of the College of Radiographers - Therapy / Degree in Therapeutic Radiography)
Current state registration
Attendance of recent relevant post graduate courses and study days including assessment of undergraduates
Evidence of interest and commitment in working towards further professional development and qualification
Experience of working clinically as a radiographer on full range of radiotherapy equipment which will have led to the acquisition of sound and well established theoretical and practical knowledge and successful experience of working and learning in multi professional teams
Experience in assessing and teaching trainee radiographers
Specialist knowledge of cancer pathology and disease patterns
Specialist knowledge of clinical radiotherapy including potential radiation risks, acute patient side effects and their effective management
An active awareness of relevant legislation, national cancer standards and professional guidelines
