About us

The Regeneration Delivery Unit is leading the high-profile transformational regeneration of towns and cities across the country, one of the central announcements in the Levelling Up White Paper. It represents a shift in policy and delivery to a holistic and cross-cutting approach to transforming places. Our team is at the centre of this, leading the engagement with places and convening colleagues across government to deliver change. This requires an understanding of how different government levers come together to transform a place and how to influence across teams to achieve better outcomes. Regeneration is made up of the follow directorates:

  • Housing Markets and Strategy
  • Social Housing
  • Leasehold and PRS
  • Planning
  • Housing Delivery

We are looking to welcome a new cohort of apprentices to work in policy, project delivery and business administration roles. No previous experience in these fields are required, nor do you have to have previous experience of working in the Civil Service. In fact, these roles will be ideal for anyone working in the Civil Service for the first time as the accompanying apprenticeship will help you develop the necessary skills, knowledge and behaviours that you will need to perform effectively.

Additionally, please note the merit order for this campaign will be appointments will be made on merit order, according to the location to which you have applied and where roles are available.

Apprenticeship

As one of our apprentices, you will be enrolled onto one of the following Apprenticeship schemes:

  • Policy Officer Level 4 Apprenticeship
  • Business Administrator Level 3 Apprenticeship
  • Project Manager Level 4

The apprenticeship takes approximately 18-24 months to complete and during this time you’ll achieve the skills, knowledge and behaviours necessary to work effectively in your role.

To manage your learning, 20% of your paid working hours will be dedicated to ‘off the job’ learning you apprenticeship for you to focus on your training and developing your skills. The apprenticeship training will be provided as a blend of online learning and virtual classroom tuition delivered by an Apprenticeship Training Provider. You will be given assignments throughout your apprenticeship and you will use examples from your job to provide evidence for them. You will have regular meetings with a Talent Coach from the apprenticeship training provider and with your Line Manager from your job to ensure you are on track and are supported.

Policy Apprenticeship

The Policy apprenticeship will cover an introduction to UK Government and Parliament, an understanding of the key elements of policy making. Our work is to develop policies that will support the Government’s priorities. You will have the opportunity to work with other policy professionals to develop your policy skills.

Project Delivery Apprenticeship

The Project Delivery apprenticeship will explore different organisational structures, responsibilities and stakeholders, and demonstrates the importance of project management planning and communication plans. This apprenticeship will cover the core skills in the project planning process from project definition to handover, as well as learning about budget management, cost control and how to support management objectives.

Business Administrator Apprenticeship

You will play a key role in delivering Ministerial priorities by supporting the development and delivery of key national policies, as well as providing high-class support in private office and corporate support roles. You'll take responsibility for providing accurate, concise advice; both orally and in writing. You will work with energy and pace to manage your own work and make real contribution to policy and corporate objectives. You will have the opportunity to engage with stakeholders across government and the public and private sectors to unblock barriers and develop new ideas and approaches for Ministers that will have a real world impact.

Our apprenticeship campaign has been specifically designed to offer opportunities to non-graduates, to complement the various graduate programmes and other entry routes available on Civil Service Jobs.

Qualifications

It’s essential that you have:

  • The right to work in the UK and have been ordinarily resident in the UK/EU/EA for 3 consecutive years before starting the apprenticeship
  • 5 GCSEs including in English and Maths (or Level 2 equivalent) at Grades A- C (or the new Grade 4 and above) - Please note that if candidates are unable to provide certificates or have not achieved Level 2 English and Maths, they will need to achieve this level prior to taking their end-point assessment (and can do so as part of their apprenticeship)
  • 2 x A-levels at Grade D or above; or an equivalent Level 3 qualification eg BTEC Extended Diploma at grade PPP and above; or a Level 3 apprenticeship

If you are a graduate, we will not be able to consider your application. Our Graduate Fast Stream Programme or non-apprenticeship jobs on Civil Service Jobs may be more appropriate for you.

Please note that existing academic qualifications will need to be recorded as part of the application and onboarding process and declared to the Apprenticeship Training Provider during registration.

We are for everyone

DLUHC want to bring in a diverse workforce at all levels. The interview will be of a blended nature consisting of behaviour, experience and strength questions. Questions during interview stage will be as listed in the advert. The salary for this role is £28,412 (London) or £25,324 (National).

RESERVE LIST

Important note

Successful candidates for roles based in our 2 Marsham Street building must meet the security requirements before they can be appointed. The level of security needed is counter-terrorist check and the process can take up to 8 weeks to complete.

Internal Fraud Database

The Internal Fraud function of the Fraud, Error, Debt and Grants Function at the Cabinet Office processes details of civil servants who have been dismissed for committing internal fraud, or who would have been dismissed had they not resigned. The Cabinet Office receives the details from participating government organisations of civil servants who have been dismissed, or who would have been dismissed had they not resigned, for internal fraud. In instances such as this, civil servants are then banned for 5 years from further employment in the civil service. The Cabinet Office then processes this data and discloses a limited dataset back to DLUHC as a participating government organisations. DLUHC then carry out the pre employment checks so as to detect instances where known fraudsters are attempting to reapply for roles in the civil service. In this way, the policy is ensured and the repetition of internal fraud is prevented.
