Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to become a Band 7 Ward Manager/Charge nurse on Fraser Ward at Nottingham City Hospital. Fraser Ward is 18 bed Female Oncology Ward where you will care for patients undergoing different stages of their cancer journey.


A nurse that can demonstrate motivation towards delivering the highest standard of nursing care and the ability to work as part of a proactive and forward thinking multidisciplinary team.


We are looking to recruit a ward sister/charge nurse who will provide excellent care and gets the basics right, someone who loves to develop others to become excellent at what they do and wants to make a difference.
This is a great opportunity to develop your Leadership and Managerial skills with the support of the wider managerial team. We are committed to flexible working and improving the lives of our staff through active staff involvement.

Main duties of the job

You will be self-driven, innovative with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You will also be highly motivated with a desire to provide the highest standards of care, whilst demonstrating clear leadership. You will provide support and supervision of nursing and non-nursing staff; assist in maintaining and monitoring of standards through Nursing Metrics Dashboard, Essence of Care Benchmarks and Trust Infection Control Audits and standards.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Have 24-hour responsibility for managing staff and budgets. Ensuring that the standards and quality of care given are maintained to a high standard, to include hotel service provision and the environment in which care is delivered.

Have responsibility in ensuring that patients and users are involved in their care.

Providing visible evidence that their feedback is used to maintain standards or implement improvements that have an effect on their care.

Be an effective leader and role model, providing regular direct clinical care, in addition to ensuring effective use of non-clinical time to support the implementation of both clinical and non-clinical governance, facilitating the modernisation of patient services.

Work clinically as a member of the team administering treatments including chemotherapy, to ensure standards are being maintained, evaluated and where necessary improved

Undertake any other duties that may reasonably be required.

The post holder is required to hold a valid 1st level registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.


Person specification

Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria

    • Registered Nurse part 1 of NMC the register
    • Be competent in chemotherapy administration

Desirable criteria

    • ENB 998 or equivalent Teaching & Assessing qualification
  • BSc(Hons) Degree in Adult Nursing or above

Experience

Essential criteria

    • Significant post-registration experience, at Band 6 or above, within an Oncology setting
    • Leadership and management experience

Desirable criteria

    • Experience of audit/research.

Salary: The quoted salary will be on a pro rata basis for part time workers.

  • Disclosure and Barring Service: Your post maybe subject to a DBS check which incur a cost dependent on the level of check required (£41.90 for enhanced and £21.90 for standard). I agree to reimburse Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust the cost of a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check if it is required (by deduction from first month’s pay). Should I decide to withdraw from my job offer, I agree to reimburse Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust the cost of the DBS check undertaken by cheque or other agreed method.
