Job Description:

Madison College's Bookstore is currently seeking an engaging individual to join their team in a part-time capacity. The Part-Time Bookstore Cashier role is a vital component of the dynamic bookstore team at Madison College. It presents an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys working with course materials and supplies, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and enjoys interacting with people.

Reporting to the Associate Manager, Bookstore Retail, the Bookstore Cashier will be responsible for daily closing duties in the bookstore. This position offers an engaging and fulfilling experience within the college community.

This position requires general work hours of 25 hours per week, Monday to Thursday from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM, and on Friday from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Please note that work hours may vary according to the store's operating hours. This is a part-time position that aligns with the college's academic year, spanning 40 weeks per year.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provides cashiering services in the bookstore. Receives and records bookstore monies, cash, credit cards, checks, gift cards, AR transactions, and makes change for customers. Responsible for completing general daily financial reports.
  • Provides front line customer service for all products and services offered through the bookstore. Exles include greeting and welcoming customers, pulling, and filling orders for books and materials, filling and checking out web orders, answering phone, in person, and electronic inquires.
  • Handles closing of store and all functions related, counting down cash drawers, cash verification, securing monies and store. Acts as backup for department staff to include filling in for absences both scheduled and unscheduled.
  • Restocks and organizes store shelves and creates shelf tags as needed. Creates store displays as needed.
  • Trains, supports, and guides student and seasonal employees.
  • Shares responsibility for controlling store inventory and communicating store needs with internal contacts.
  • Maintains order, cleanliness and replenishes work areas and cashier stations. Performs operation, minor adjustments, and basic maintenance of cash registers.

Knowledge, Skills and ; Abilities:

  • Skill in communicating effectively and professionally, both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated skill in communications and human relations with populations of diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds and persons with disabilities.
  • Knowledge and skill in using computers and cash registers to complete transactions.
  • Skill in providing quality customer service to all customers. This includes in person, over the phone, and using electronic communications.
  • Skill in handling money, customer data, sensitive documents and information. This includes knowledge of rules, regulations, and procedures in keeping these things secure.
  • Skill and confidence in handling a lead cashiering role.
  • Skill in guiding, supporting, and training student and casual employees.
  • Skill and ability to stand for long periods of time, move about the store to assist customers, stock shelves, and maintain a clean and organized retail space.
  • Ability to prioritize, make decisions, and work independently.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 50 pounds.
  • Skill in maintaining organization in work areas, retail space, and storage areas.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, G.E.D or equivalent
  • Six (6) month working experience
