The incumbent is part of a global public health organization and is expected to support the Florida Department of Health in Highlands County in its mission to protect, promote and improve the health of all people in Florida through integrated state, county and community efforts and its efforts and its vision To be the Healthiest State in the Nation. Your Specific Responsibilities:

This is a senior leader position directing all the health promotion and community outreach programs at the FDOH-Manatee County. This position facilitates collaboration with community partners to develop, implement and monitor the Community Health Assessment (CHA) and Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP).


This individual will be responsible for all supervisory duties for Community Health employees, including, but not limited to, recruitment, selection and hiring, developing performance expectations, conducting performance evaluations, planning and directing staff work, approving leave, and taking disciplinary action, as appropriate.


This individual assists and supports program staff in planning, developing, implementing and evaluating the various programs within the Community Health Division, including Healthiest Weight, Worksite Wellness (non-clinical components), Chronic Disease Prevention, Tobacco Cessation, Minority Health, as well as all aspects of the CHA/CHIP.


This individual supports Performance Excellence throughout the organization, utilizing the nationally recognized Baldrige/Sterling Management Model. This includes working with the Quality Improvement Consultant in the development and improvement of leadership processes; ensuring Accreditation readiness; developing and implementing the DOH-Manatee Strategic Plan; monitoring and improving customer satisfaction; review and analysis of the organizational and Division scorecards; monitoring and improving workforce engagement; supporting quality improvement efforts such as process mapping, root cause analysis, process improvement and action planning; facilitating development of internal policies and procedures; and other activities which result in improved health and organizational results. This includes:


  • Attends Senior Leader Team meetings, Performance Management Council meetings, and FDOH conference calls
  • Plans, directs and evaluates policies, goals and objectives of the CHIP in relation to FDOH-Manatee strategic plan with other Division Directors.
  • Prepares, monitors and plans department budget to assure adequate funding and eliminate budget deficits.
  • Reviews and monitors the preparation and approval of purchase orders.

Plans, develops and implements Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP) under the direction of the Manatee Healthcare Alliance and other community partners, focusing on education and outreach and ensuring that the CHA/CHIP meets accreditation standards.


Seeks and pursues grant opportunities to address the needs of the community health division, CHIP, and the FDOH-Manatee strategic plan.


Serves as a liaison for special projects as directed by the Administrator.

  • Ability to plan, develop and evaluate health education programs and services.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

Bachelors Degree Required

**Masters Degree Preffered
