These resources, combined with our ambition and excitement, create an ideal place to work, research and make an impact in scientific education.Your opportunity:Under general direction of the Manager, Chem-Labs Technical Support and Supplies,the incumbent provides technical services for undergraduate labs, including but not limited to preparing solutions and the stocking of chemicals, assisting in administrative duties of an undergraduate course, answering technical questions and assisting in the operation of the chemistry store.Since handling and working with chemicals is a large component of this job, the incumbent must be aware of and observe all health and safety practices during the normal course of the work. In addition the incumbent must report equipment malfunctions, unusual occurrences and potentially hazardous situations to the manager immediately.Your responsibilities will include:Constructing proof of concept experiments to test different elements of the processCollecting experimental data, verifying results and passing on findingsSetting-up lab/workshop according to research and/or course schedulesProviding detailed explanations and demonstrating procedures to students and/or employees on lab techniques, experimental procedures and protocolsApplying established standards when cleaning lab, rooms and equipmentEnsuring the safe handling of specialized lab equipment and materials while operating within close proximity to othersServing as a technical resource on laboratory protocols, and experimental procedures and equipmentEssential Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry or acceptable combination of equivalent experience and education.Minimum two years recent and relevant experience in supporting/maintaining a chemistry laboratory, preferably a teaching laboratory, providing technical support to undergraduate students, and handling standard chemistry laboratory instrumentsExperience in preparing and assembling solutions, materials, supplies and equipment used for Chemistry labsExperience in operating, maintaining, and trouble-shooting laboratory equipment including personal computer; photocopier; analytical instruments such as NMR, FTIR, UV-Vis, and AA/AE, gas, ion and liquid chromatographs; pH, ion selective, and reference electrodes; auto-titrators.Experience in maintaining and performing function checks on computers and data acquisition instrumentationExperience in dealing with laboratory chemicalsExperience with inventory management databaseQualification as a First Aid responder.Ability to organize, coordinate and effectively communicate activities as they relate to students.Excellent organizational skillsExperience in safe working with chemicals and analytical equipment.Excellent lab equipment maintenance and basic troubleshooting skills.Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.Basic computer skills and proficiency with Windows operating software, basic networking and file sharing, archiving of data, MS Office,Adobe Acrobat, MS Outlook.Excellent manual dexterity is required.Ability to work with care and accuracyAbility to lift and move equipment and bulk chemicalsTo be successful in this role you will be:AccountableCommunicatorCooperativeEfficientMeticulousOrganizedClosing Date: 08/02/2024, 11:59PM ETEmployee Group: USWAppointment Type: Budget - ContinuingSchedule: Full-TimePay Scale Group & Hiring Zone:USW Pay Band 09 -- $66,715. with an annual step progression to a maximum of $85,319.
