General Ledger – Senior Associate (level 2) - Newcastle
The General Ledger Senior Associate is a member of a high performing and mixed rank team led by the UKI Country Accounting Manager.
This role sits within the UKI Controlling team which helps the business create success by managing risk, mitigating fraud, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and Firm policy, driving quality, consistency and efficiency across the accounting processes.
The General Ledger senior associate plays a key role in providing support of the management of the General Ledger Team Lead in their absence. They should be working closely with the Team Leader and have a good overview on issues / deadlines and any people issues. In addition, they will require skills to:
- providing transactional processing expertise, operational support, advice and insights across several areas including, vendor payables, staff expenses compliance, AMEX administration, accounts receivable and VAT controlling.
- implementing and monitoring appropriate controls
- partnering with offshore teams and holding them accountable for high levels of service delivery.
The opportunity
A chance to work shadow the team leader and develop their own supervisory skills and provide some basic coaching to other members of the team. It encourages the individual development to learn leadership and management skills whilst working on the job with a view to moving into a team leader role in the future.
Key responsibilities
- Directly reports to team leader on the team and can step into the role of supervisor in their absence. Ensuring the duty of care to team members and providing support where required.
- Provides vital support and back up to team leader and has a good knowledge of the tasks and deadlines that the team are required to meet
- Delegate tasks to the team in the absence of the team leader.
- Gain an understanding of business-critical issues and can articulate and escalate to the relevant people in the absence of the team leader.
- Counselling of staff member to assist them in implementing and maintaining their self-development plan
- Excellent knowledge on the reconciliation of balance sheet and bank accounts (identifying and correction/reporting of anomalies)
- Support Monthly meetings with relevant Heads of Finance to enable the accurate reflection of transactions in the SL/ functional P&L accounts in the absence of the team leader.
- Production of the firms Tax packs to enable the EMEIA Tax Team to file the firm’s PSA (PAYE settlement agreement) return and disallowable expenditure for the partnership/corporation tax return to provide support and back up in the absence of team leader.
- Processing payroll costs to record and distribute correct charges to the services lines.
- Review and audit onshore and offshore balance sheets.
- Provide guidance on local policy and leading practices
- Coach/Problem solve with more junior members to help develop their skills through job shadowing, advising, informal training
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives and proactively seek improvements
- Ensure that the team provides a good quality service

- Experience coaching more junior team members through shadowing, answering questions, advice, etc

To qualify for the role, you must have:
- Minimum two years’ Experience in a similar role in a fast-paced environment
- Knowledge of Word and Excel
- Knowledge of SAP would be an advantage
- Used to working in a fast-paced environment with a strong work ethic
- Desire to thrive in and adapt to a fast changing and high activity environment
- Innovative, confident and creative thinker with ability to make quick decisions
- The ability to think on your feet, use initiative and judgement to make informed decisions
