Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust provides child and adult mental health services, learning disability, wellbeing, older people's and eating disorder services across Norfolk and Suffolk.

Exciting opportunity in the Adult Eating Disorder Team in Suffolk!

We have received additional funding for a temporary full-time band 6 dietitian from NHS England to support the Virtual Intensive Treatment (VIT) pathway which has been developed as a pilot to deliver intensive treatment through virtual appointments to patients across the East of England

You will be supported by 2 Band 7 Specialist dietitians and as a team will deliver this service alongside our current community Adult Eating Disorder outpatients service.

This exciting role expects you to act as a source of expertise on the dietary management of eating disorders to the multi-disciplinary team, community health professionals and others involved in the care of our patients. This includes liaising with colleagues in the local acute hospital trusts.

Whether you are experienced in working with patients who have Eating Disorders and are looking to develop your career, or an experienced dietitian within a different clinical area, we would value your contribution to our diverse friendly team. All necessary support and supervision will be provided to the right individual.

This is a great opportunity to join a well established and supportive multi-disciplinary team (MDT).

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work alongside two Band 7 dietitians in close collaboration with the MDT.

You will work within the Suffolk Community Adult Eating Disorder Service to ensure continuity and consistency of dietetic care for Adults with a range of eating disorders. Dependent on experience, this may include supporting MEED admissions, early intervention, group education and the VIT pathway.

Clinical work is varied and hugely rewarding. You will work with patients through the nutritional and physical consequences of an eating disorders providing evidence based advice to patients at all stages of their treatment. Assessment will include interpretation of anthropometric, biochemical and clinical indicators, weight history and dietary analysis.

This role requires you to work with patients across the county. There will be an opportunity to request a preferred base in Ipswich or Bury St Edmunds. However, some travel between sites will be expected.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Alongside the oversight of those accessing the VIT, the dietitian will also work with SAEDS MDT under supervision from current band 7 dietitians and will perform the following key duties:

  • Provide specialised nutritional advice and support in the treatment of adult eating disorders.
  • Educate and support patients and their families / supporters on nutritional needs, using appropriate language and education tools to meet their needs and requirements.
  • Ensure all team members are aware of specific plans made with their patients by attendance at team meetings and via the electronic record.
  • Work with the MDT under supervision from band 7 dietitians in assessing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating a programme of care for adult eating disorder patients.
  • Participate in decision making meetings as appropriate, evaluating care with members of the MDT, making recommendations for change, and evaluating outcomes.
  • Ensure that dietary recommendations are communicated effectively and incorporated in the patients’ overall package of care.
  • Support the development of relevant evidence based written information for patients and health care professionals and to review them at agreed intervals.
  • Attend appropriate MDT meetings to provide expert advice to clinicians regarding the progression of nutrition support which is evidence based. This will involve nutritional assessment to include calculation of nutritional requirements based on the interpretation of biochemistry, anthropometry, clinical condition, and other physical parameters.
  • Maintain and develop professional standards through ongoing continuing professional development, audit and evaluation in accordance with the Health and Care Professions Council Standards and Trust Policies and Procedures

  • To have good understanding of eating disorders and the need for collaborative meal planning.

  • Experience of working with eating disorder patients
