About Us
We have our own hospital facilities and 5 branch surgeries. Thornbury is a tier 3 RCVS accredited hospital and is an ISFM gold standard cat friendly practice. We are a nurse training practice. Our experienced team, including several certificate holders, can deal with a wide variety of both medical and surgical cases in house. We are close to Leeds and Bradford, if it is city life that interests you, and close to the Yorkshire Dales for those with outdoor passions. We are also based only a few miles away from Leeds Bradford Airport. We have 14 day vets, a dedicated admin team, 10 Veterinary Nurses, most of which hold extra qualifications. They will support your every need, and as we are a training practice they are grown to fully understand how our hospital works. We have certificate holders in ECC, ophthalmology and 2 in surgery and many of our nurses have advanced qualifications as well. We’re an extremely social bunch! We have our monthly fun day, we have done ghost tours, meals, Christmas events and even a summer Olympics “Day” in our colleague’s garden. The Practice has a rich and extensive history. We can track it directly back to 1750! We have dental X-rays, separate soft tissue and orthopaedic theatres, the facilities for laparoscopic spays, ultrasound and endoscopy room and even an operating microscope. Thanks to our excellent facilities, we also host Vets Now during the nights.
Here is what the team have to say about life in practice:
- “One of the major benefits of working for Yorkshire Vets is it’s incredibly dedicated and caring team of vets, nurses and support staff. Since my very first day, I have been made to feel a welcomed part of the family and this supportive environment makes Yorkshire Vets a uniquely pleasant and enriching place to work. We all know that the veterinary industry can be extremely challenging at times but working with such a great team of people makes all the difference on those inevitable tough days. All of our surgeries are modern and well-equipped and patient care is always paramount. I can’t think of a better place to work… which is why I’m still here after 6 years and counting.” – Billie, Veterinary Surgeon.
“I am one of the veterinary nurses at Yorkshire vets, working predominantly in the Thornbury hospital but occasionally you'll find me consulting at our Meanwood and Horsforth branches. I have been here 12 years now, starting as a fresh-faced nursing assistant, being lucky enough to complete my nursing training and I now train the student nurses in my role as clinical supervisor. I have had a couple of stints at other veterinary surgeries over my time, however many things set Yorkshire vets as my home, and I have never felt any need to leave. I feel as a nurse I have had the pleasure of working with a large variety of veterinary surgeons here who have all influenced me and allowed me to grow my own set of skills. I love working with the senior vets and learning from them; however the new graduate veterinary scheme is brilliant as I am able to impart some of knowledge and skills as well as learn what is new in the world of veterinary!” – Corrine, RVN.
