Job Description

Nursery Assistant Practitioner

Place of Work – Crossway Town Nursery, 24 Newport Road, Caldicot, Monmouthshire, NP26 4BQ

Hours – Monday-Friday, between 8am-5.30pm (can be flexible from 14 hours per week)

Salary – Salary range from £19,500 - £22,500 pro rata depending on qualifications and experience

Holidays – 28 Days per year pro rata to hours worked (This is inclusive of Bank Holidays when the nursery is closed)

Responsible to- Directors, Nursery Manager, Deputy Manager, Room Leaders

The Role – As a nursery practitioner/assistant at Crossway Town you will work alongside our room leader and practitioners covering our toddler room, baby room and pre-school and you will deliver exceptional care and education to all children attending the setting. You and the nursery team will have flexibility and control over what you plan on a daily basis which should include taking children on outings in the local area such as trips to the park, local woods, Caldicot Castle, Library etc as part of their daily routine. You will also plan and deliver stimulating and educational activities and experiences within the setting.

Career Progression and Training – All practitioners/assistants will receive update training for all mandatory courses and you will also have the opportunity to participate in further training as part of our commitment to your ongoing CPD.

Main duties and responsibilities

TEAM WORK

· To work effectively with their immediate team within the room.

· To work in partnership with the toddler room leader and contribute ideas and initiatives to develop practice in the room and outside.

· To support the management, room leader and existing practitioners in all aspects of the setting.

· To share their own knowledge, skills and experience with the immediate team.

· Communicate effectively with staff, management, parents and children.

· To motivate their team and encourage positivity within the room.

· Reflect on yours and your team’s practice daily.

· To respect and value all colleagues, children and parents, encouraging a positive and diverse working environment.

CARE AND EDUCATION

· To provide a purposeful, stimulating environment that is rich in learning opportunities, both indoors and outdoors.

· To ensure planning, observation and assessment is of a high quality and paperwork is jointly maintained with the room leader.

· To ensure you reflect on and evaluate practice daily, this includes daily activities, continuous provision, outings in the community and outdoor provision.

· To ensure daily routines are maintained for individual children and all relevant routines are recorded such sleep times, nappy changes and daily parent sheets are completed and sent home after each session.

· To ensure all children reach their full potential with carefully planned activities and experiences that are centred around the child.

· To manage behaviour effectively and monitor the other staff members practice in behaviour management.

· To ensure children have FUN every day!

· To ensure children are listened to, and their thoughts, ideas and contributions are valued on a daily basis.

· To mindful of realistic expectations for the age group and monitor and respond to other staff’s expectations of children.

POSITIVE RELATIONSHIPS

· To embrace, understand and promote Crossway Nursery’s ethos and values.

· To promote positive relationships in the early years setting.

· To be a key person by carrying out all related responsibilities such as building relationships with a small group of children and their families

· To lead by example.

· To be professional and a good role model to the children and other staff members at all times.

· To be responsible for the welfare of all children in your designated room, organising systems to ensure consistent, high- quality care.

· To work in partnership with all parents/carers, building and maintaining relationships that encourage trust, open communication and involvement in nursery life.

· Continual communication with parents.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

· To reinforce and follow company policies and procedures at all times and deal with any breaches swiftly and in an appropriate manner.

· To report concerns or breaches of policy and procedures to management immediately.

· To ensure that you have an excellent understanding and have a working knowledge of all aspects of Health and safety and the risks assessments that are in place.

· To promote the health, safety and wellbeing of the children and other professionals within the building by completing area checks and daily risk assessments for rooms.

· To ensure all safeguarding procedures are followed in line with local authority and company procedures, ensure your team respond appropriately to safeguarding issues and report any safeguarding concerns or issues with management immediately.

· Respond appropriately to issues regarding confidentiality.

· To work in partnership to ensure standards are continually being met in line with CIW requirements and the NMS.

· To contribute to the creation of a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment for all children.

· To be vigilant and protect children from harm or abuse, reporting any concerns immediately – in accordance with child protection and whistleblowing policies.

GENERAL

· Reflect on daily practice and identify areas for continual improvement.

· Promote equality and diversity within the nursery, challenging any behaviour which does not support our inclusive practice and equal opportunity policy.

· To be flexible within working practice of the nursery and be prepared to help if needed, including overtime, undertaking domestic jobs and cooking

· Attend staff meetings and training sessions necessary for continuing professional development.

· To reflect on practice and routines, tailoring them to meet the individual needs of each child throughout the day.

· To undertake any other aspects of nursery work according to need.
