Band 6 Elective Care Manager - Access, Booking & Choice

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Elective Care Manager role within the Corporate (Access, Booking & Choice) Directorate, managing a large team of Waiting list Co-ordinators based at Heartlands Hospital, Solihull Hospital and Good Hope Hospital.

This role will be full time, permanent requiring 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday and the post holder will be expected to work 1 full day at Heartlands Hospital, 2 full days at Solihull Hospital and 2 full days at Good Hope Hospital each week.

We are keen to hear from applicants who have managerial experience of a large team of staff and who have an understanding of the several elective care key waiting time targets the Trust is measured on.

Main duties, tasks & skills required

This post will be the Direct Line Manager for the Team Leaders and administration staff within the Elective Inpatient Booking Offices, currently situated at Heartlands Hospital, Good Hope Hospital and Solihull Hospital and the main duties of the role include:-

  • to ensure that all Inpatient Waiting Lists for the surgical specialities are managed accordingly, adapting to any change or instructions given by the Speciality Managers and ensuring that elective theatre lists are fully booked and utilised accordingly.
  • To ensure that any outsourcing of elective patients is co-ordinated, actioned and documented as instructed.
  • to develop excellent internal working relationships with numerous Speciality Operational Teams, Consultants, Theatre and Pre Op Teams, Radiology, Medical Secretaries and Interpreting Services as well as external stakeholders such as GP's, Dental Surgeries and other healthcare provide
  • be expected to create an environment of continuous quality improvement and professional development in all areas, ensuring that service developments are implemented when necessary.
  • To ensure complaints and incidents are investigated in line with Trust policies to identify, agree and implement corrective action plans.
  • To make independent decisions when appropriate and escalate when needed

Qualifications

Essential

Degree or equivalent professional Management qualification plus acquire training to post graduate level. Or equivalent experience in a relevant role (E)

Further management training and/or relevant managerial experience (E)

Understanding of range of work practices, majority non routine (E)

Experience

Previous experience of working to NHS key performance and national standards working with NHS clinicians and other Healthcare professionals (E)

Experience in handling confidential information (E)

Experience with dealing with patients, relatives and the general public (E)

Experience in managing in-patient and outpatient waiting lists and designing and implementing mitigating actions as required (E)

HR - day to day supervision / management of staff and delivery of training. (E)

Desirable

Experience of working to NHS key performance and national standards within Gastroenterology or Endoscopy (D)
