MISSION & VISION STATEMENT:

The Kewa Pueblo Health Corporation (KPHC) is established for the purposes of carrying out the vision and mission of the Santo Domingo Health Center (SDHC). POSITION PURPOSE:

The Chief Nursing Officer provides exemplary leadership in focus of long-term success. In concentration of nursing leadership, the CNO will look over healthcare management in focus of the healthcare environment as a whole, will focus on budgeting and trends, and will support/define nurse management processes. The CNO will overlook the hiring and employee onboarding practice as well as collaborate with supporting departments. In concentration of productivity, the CNO will collect data and analyze with an emphasis to quality assurance/quality improvement. As a leader will guide the nursing team to achieve improved outcomes for patients while always leading by example in adherence to policies, implementation of policies and best practice in patient care procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • General
  • Enhances nursing procedural protocols based on evidenced practices to enhance patient care
  • Strategizes quality improvement measures in improving nursing care performance
  • Ensure compliance to federal, state, and local policies and regulations
  • Involved in the hiring process for nursing talent and in the onboarding processes
  • Provides ongoing training to the nursing administrative team on evidence-based practices
  • Focuses on productivity, trends, fiscal year budgetary analysis for the nursing departments. Knowledge of current function, services, staffing and cost in an ambulatory care setting and inpatient care setting to accomplish operational plans.
  • Encourages networking and collaboration between nursing departments and allied departments in enhancing patient quality care
  • Serves as a stakeholder and spokesperson for the organization during important events
  • Alongside nursing administrators, upholds the administrative team to manage nursing licensure and clinical trainings (CEU’s, nursing education competencies).
  • Conducts research for advanced technology and practices. Reports evidence-based data to befit organizations practices for best care
  • Works closely with providers, clinic staff, and administrators (Senior and Mid-Level) as stakeholders in support of best practice

  • Knowledge of the principles’ of growth and development over life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of patient’s status and interpret patient information relative to his/her age specific needs. Ability to provide the care needed as described in the nursing department’s policies and procedures manual.
  • Knowledge of professional nursing theory and practices through completion of professional nursing education programs and supplemented by years of professional nursing experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Clinical/Medical staff by-laws, rules and regulations, complies with all requirements for appointment to, must be credentialed, and privileged in accordance with Kewa Pueblo Health Corporation medical staff by-laws.

  • Leadership Expectations
  • Lead on a team of nursing administrators on developing budgeting tactics and planning, build and support procedural protocols, develop leadership skills, become accountable for nursing departments productivity venues and QA/QI projects, and focus on AAAHC
  • Conduct month and quarterly meetings with nursing administrative staff. Focus on an agenda based on projections, projects, leadership. Topics supportive of departmental roles, objectives and forecasts
  • Round on a weekly basis supporting nursing departments and leaders on operations
  • Work in conjunction with senior leadership on projects, delineation of operational processes, delegation of authority and tasks
  • Collaborate with supportive leadership on processes and projects
  • Public Relations: speaking skills when meeting with community members and patients.

MINIMUM MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • Current license or registration as a Registered Nurse in a State or Territory of the United States.
  • MBA in healthcare management or MSN in clinical management or leadership (or) compatible years with a field related degree with at least 5 years of experience in management.

Experience:
  • Five (5) years demonstrated work experience as a Registered Nurse with at least two (2) of those years must be in a formal management/supervisory leadership capacity.

Certification(s):

  • Must have a BLS at the time of hire and adhere to the RQI, AHA, BLS certification modules in a quarterly basis.

Mandatory Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of standard organizational/clinical policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of organization performances and behavioral skills; leadership quality and practices for administrative service in the areas of nursing care.
  • Skills in communicating and dealing with confrontational and disciplinary situations.
  • Ability to effectively manage a group of employees.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • TNCC preferred.
  • Bilingual skills in English and the Keres native language
  • Prior experience working with Indian Health Services (IHS), a Tribe or Tribal organization.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the primary functions of this job. Normal office conditions exist, and the noise level in the work environment can vary from low to moderate. Limited overnight travel may be required from time to time. This position may be exposed to certain health risks that are inherent when working within a health center facility.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Work is performed in an interior medical-clinical environment. Light physical effort which requires handling of average-weight objects up to 10 pounds. Standing and or walking for more than 4 hours per day.

MENTAL DEMANDS:

There are a number of deadlines associated with this position. The employee must also multi-task and interact with a wider variety of people on various and, at times, complicated issues.
