Job description


The DIO Apprenticeship Academy offers a wide range of apprenticeships that combine practical work and training to gain valuable experience. Through our apprenticeships you will gain professional knowledge, a recognised qualification and the wider skills required to up skill you and pave the way for your future career.

Level 4 Software Developer Apprenticeship

Whilst in post, you will undertake an 18-month Software Developer Level 4 apprenticeship delivered by QA working towards achieving a Software Developer Level 4 qualification. This is an industry and globally recognised qualification that provides you with academic preparation and underpinning skills necessary to prepare you for your future. The successful candidate will be required to join the next available cohort once they have started in post.

As a requirement of the apprenticeship, you will need to successfully complete an Aptitude Test through QA, if you do not meet the standard, you will be enrolled on to a level 3 Software Development Technician apprenticeship.

  • The ability to work under direction, use discretion and determine when to escalate issues

We’ll support your learning and professional development through a range of on-the-job experiences, a combination of training courses, mentoring and networking opportunities. You will receive one-to-one support throughout your Apprenticeship from your Scheme Manager, Line Manager. as well as your coaches from the training provider.

You may also be required to use your own IT equipment due to existing IT security restrictions when accessing provider websites.

We will link you up with other Apprentices who you can meet and connect with, give you the opportunity to participate in bi-annual Apprenticeship events and get involved with our many networks such as Race, Gender, LBGT+, Faith and Mental Health, among others to really give you that all-round feeling of the culture in our business.

Role Responsibilities

  • Working within the Microsoft PowerApps environment, building apps within the Canvas and Model driven environments
  • Creating and managing database tables, relationships, and structures within the Microsoft Dataverse environments
  • Creating user interfaces that will follow the Government Design Standards (GDS) and DIO standards to ensure the best user experience
  • Supporting user queries for existing applications, where bugs and new development is needed to achieve the business benefits
  • Assisting with the design of the business solution from concept through to implementation and roll out

Desirable Experience & Skills

  • Microsoft PowerApps either using Canvas apps or Model driven apps
  • Relational database structures
  • Experience in creating user applications

Essential

Qualifications

  • The learner must have completed a Level 3 Software Development Apprenticeship with QA or have an equivalent qualification with another training provider, OR
  • An A-Level in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) subject and a successful completion of our Aptitude Test
OR
  • A BTEC Diploma in IT and a successful completion of our Aptitude Test
OR
  • 2 years’ experience in a relevant role and successful completion of our Aptitude Test.
AND
  • English and Math's at grade C / grade 4 or higher

Employment Hours

We want to offer opportunities to all who are successful at interview for our roles, but this isn’t always possible, so we do hold candidates on an active reserve list for 12 months. It is also possible that we may offer similar lower graded role/s to reserve candidates or, if no reserves are appointed, candidates that meet the lower grade criteria in merit order.
