Job Description
Distance Learning Tutor
Could you be a distance learning tutor with NEC? Our Tutors work remotely, generally alongside other work or personal commitments on a self employed basis.
The National Extension College (NEC) is an educational charity based in Cambridge which is part of the Open School Trust. NEC has provided tutor-supported home study courses directly to learners for over 50 years, and also publishes learning resources for colleges and training providers.
Having the right tutor makes a huge difference to a student’s experience. Time and again we hear from our students who tell us that their tutor gave them confidence to succeed, encouraged them to keep studying and helped them gain the qualification(s) they needed to go to university or to change careers.
Tutoring online is different from classroom teaching. Although both require a high level of subject knowledge and the skills to guide and work with students, distance learning tutors focus more heavily on providing high quality feedback.
Many of our tutors are currently employed teachers and find that due to the flexibility of the role, they are able to fit in being an NEC tutor alongside other commitments. The role would also suit retired teachers looking for a part-time role. All NEC tutors work remotely on a self employed basis.
At NEC we look for tutors who can demonstrate their enthusiasm and knowledge of the subject in their feedback and guidance to every student, and who will also deliver engaging online tutorials as required.
NEC is looking to recruit experienced GCSE and A Level Tutors to support students on our online courses. You would be a perfect fit with us if you have:
● A degree in the subject you will be tutoring
● A recognised teaching qualification
● Recent experience of teaching the subject you will be tutoring
NEC is currently looking to recruit tutors for the following courses. We particularly welcome applications from practising or former teachers. Please see our website (www.nec.ac.uk) for further details of these roles
- A level and GCSE English Language
- GCSE English Literature
- A level and IGCSE Business Studies
- A level Classical Civilisation
- Award in Education and Training
- A level and IGCSE French
As a long-established educational charity delivering distance learning courses to a wide range of learners we would expect you to believe in lifelong learning and in the transformative nature of education.
