Based near Edinburgh in Scotland, our design centre in Livingston supports international automotive customers and their supply chains, with innovative solutions to complex optical, HMI, display and lighting integration challenges.
The company addresses the key challenges of space, cost, power consumption and integration with its cutting-edge technology platforms, supported by a wide patent portfolio, enabling the visions of the international car industry to be realised.
Following the company’s recent acquisition by Faurecia Clarion Electronics (FCE), we have an immediate requirement for a recently graduated Engineer or Scientist, to join our new graduate training programme, to support our innovation activities in optics, lighting, displays and HMI, undertaking problem solving and the building of demonstrators, through hands-on, laboratory and workshop based activities.
The successful candidate should have a degree in science or engineering in a relevant discipline and preferably have some hands-on experience and knowledge in some of the following topics: Optics, Optoelectronics, Photonics, Materials, Lighting, and Displays.rface (HMI) products.

The main missions of the role are:
§ Supporting the development of new lighting and display technology.
§ Gaining new knowledge and expertise, through in-house training, to support the development of new innovations.
§ Gaining experience of design, optimisation and integration, informed by hands-on, laboratory based experimentation and testing.
§ Learning the use of optical modelling and simulation software for design and evaluation of performance.
§ Learning the use of optical test equipment and understanding testing methodologies.
§ Supporting technical and commercial benchmarking, and competitive analysis through, for example, product “tear -downs”.
§ Becoming confident with the communication of results & recommendations, to internal and external stakeholders.
§ Supporting Global, Regional, and Business groups objectives and strategies.
§ Learning to interact with other Faurecia advanced development and technical teams globally.
§ Contributing to UK and European funded collaborative Research & Innovation projects.
Qualifications & Experience:
Essential:
§ Science or Engineering Bachelor’s degree, with some specialisation or interest in Optics, Optoelectronics, Materials, Displays, Lighting, Photonics or related topics.
§ Some working knowledge of the science or engineering of light.
Preferable:
§ Familiarity of optical, optoelectronic or electronic laboratory or workshop activities
§ Familiarity with one or more Key Enabling Technologies: optics; lighting; LEDs; displays; sensors; materials, electronics or related.
§ Use of optical modelling and simulation software for design and optimisation of components or systems
§ Some Industrial experience in a relevant industry or technology sector
§ Project Management, skills and experience
Skills & Competencies:
§ Hands-on practical skills, with laboratory/workshop experience
§ Innovative, creative, enthusiastic and able to develop and champion new ideas
§ Highly organised, up-beat and efficient
§ Excellent analytical, problem solving, decision making and communication skills
§ Capable of working with a wide variety of people from the shop floor to senior managers, vendors, suppliers and customers
§ Ability to work well as part of a small, extremely busy team as well as the ability to be self-motivated and work independently under their own initiative, prioritising workload
§ Strong communication skills
§ Some foreign language competence, in European and/or Asian languages, in particular French, German or Mandarin would be useful
