Currently we have an opportunity for an experienced Commodity Market Analyst to support the development of our corporate natural gas outlooks. The role sits within our Global Trading Analytics team, and will work closely with our teams on the trading floor as well as our Corporate Strategic Planning and Energy Outlook teams, to develop the long term strategic outlooks for the corporation, and integrate them with our short and medium term projections.
The role is currently based in Leatherhead, Surrey, but with a view to relocate to a central London location, with some international travel.

You will bring expertise in energy markets, with a focus on European gas markets, production and supply infrastructure, and an understanding of the European policy landscape that will impact the evolution of gas in Europe in the future. You will provide fundamental analysis, model development and scenario generation that supports both our trading organisations as well as our corporate Energy Outlooks team. You will develop and maintain a strong network both internally and externally, and apply knowledge, guidance and judgement to advise the relevant stakeholders up to board level on multi-decade outlooks for gas, and any commercial and strategic implications thereof. Where required you will also represent ExxonMobil in front of external parties such as senior government officials and regulatory agencies.
Working as part of a global team to build and own our corporate natural gas outlooks, maintaining modelling to balance supply to demand for the Europe, Russia and Caspian regions.-
Working closely with other corporate departments and teams to align assumptions and generate insights to feed into model development.

Advising global gas, power, emissions and products teams on longer term strategic direction.

Working with external consultants, and internal regulatory and governmental affairs experts to understand developments in the gas sector, and incorporate these into the outlook development
Be educated to Degree level (or equivalent) in a numeric discipline e.g. Engineering, Science, Economics, Finance, Mathematics or Statistics (or hold other relevant industry experience).-
Have previous experience in natural gas market modelling within industry or consultancies, and have a broad understanding of the European and global energy landscape.

Be experienced in developing detailed forecasts based on a combination of external data and internal insights and projections.

Have experience in fundamentals analysis and advanced analytical methods, including:

Strong numerical, analytical and modelling skills

Demonstrable analytical/innovative thinking expertise, intellectual rigor, drive, and desire to lead change

Experience working with terminals, databases and analytical/visualisation tools

Be able to demonstrate:

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, comfortable presenting to senior stakeholders up to and including board level

The ability to collaborate effectively, working as part of a multi-cultural global team

The ability to represent ExxonMobil in front of senior external parties, governments, regulatory agencies etc.

A creative approach to problem solving, and ability to defend viewpoints and judgement calls derived from fundamental analysis

Other desirable experience would include:

Prior experience in translating signals from market indicators into long term strategic trading recommendations

Broad high-level knowledge of sectors that interact with Gas markets – ETS, power, industry, refining, chemicals etc.
Ability to manage workload under time pressure and changing priorities.
