We are looking to recruit Driver/ Passenger Assistants and a Driver Handyperson for our Learning Disability Day services.
1 x 30 hr, 1 x 15 hour, 1 x 16 hour driver/passenger assistant and 1 x 37 hour driver/handyperson
The locations are: -
Crowborough
- 1 x 16 hour Driver passenger assistant, working across 4 days a week, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, split shifts between the hours of 0730 to 0930 hrs and 1500 to 1700 hrs
- 1 x 37 hour Driver handyperson, working across 5 days, Monday to Friday between the hours of 0730 to 1700 hrs on a rota basis.
Eastbourne
- 1 x 30 hour Driver passenger assistant, working across 4 days, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday between the hours of 0730 to 1700 hrs on a rota basis.
Bexhill
- 1x 15 hour Driver passenger assistant post, working across 2 days a week, Tuesday and Wednesday between the hours of 0830 to 1600 hrs on a rota basis.
Our services provide support to adults with learning disabilities. As a Driver and Passenger Assistant, you will be part of the transport crew for our day service 16-seater minibuses. The 16 hour posts in Crowborough and the 30 hour post in Eastbourne will involve bringing clients in and out of the service, operating a “shuttle bus” transport service for sessions in the day services. The 15 hour post in Bexhill will involve driving clients out to activities in the community across the County.
As a driver/handyperson you will have daily contact with our clients, whether supporting them with transport or carrying out DIY tasks in their home or day service.
Your main base will be at Hookstead Day Service in Crowborough. When not required for driving you will lead the way in providing health and safety checks, reporting and undertaking minor building repairs as well as basic decorating tasks across our sites in Crowborough, Lewes, Ringmer and Hailsham. Business mileage will be paid for any travel required between sites.
We are looking for candidates who:
- Have a full clean driving licence with a D1 classification and are willing / able to safely drive a 16 seater vehicle
- Are able to provide practical support to clients during the journey
- Be a team player and have an ethos of working together
In addition for the driver handyperson role you will have:
- A good knowledge of building maintenance and cleaning standards
- Physically able and with the ability to carry out work to the required standard
- Have basic IT skills
Part of the recruitment process will require you to pass our ESCC driver assessment which we will arrange and pay for.
Please note: The salary advertised is based on 37 hours therefore the salary for 30 hour, 16 and 15 hour posts is pro rata.

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.
