Job Description

PROGRESS TUTOR – TERM TIME ONLY

REF: SL0044-594

The Appointment:

The post of Progress Tutor involves working across a range of level 1, 2 and 3 curriculum areas. The post holder will be responsible for delivering the College’s tutorial programme to full-time students as well as monitoring student progress and attendance across their course. This includes providing students with a high level of support, monitoring progress and facilitating sound careers advice and guidance. This will involve delivering weekly group tutorials, contributing to pastoral and careers related workshops and conducting and recording regular high quality one-to-one reviews supporting high achievement and progression.

The post holder may be required to work across both College sites.

The post holder will be responsible to the Head of Studies.

The Post:

The roles and responsibilities below reflect the crucial aspects in delivering a successful tutorial programme.

(approximately 9 groups) to ensure excellent attendance and progress.

ProMonitor, providing every student with focused 1:1 reviews.

College’s ProMonitor system, including individual learning plans for students.

The above duties are indicative of the requirements of the post at the time of recruitment. It is management policy that roles and responsibilities are reviewed on a regular basis leading to possible modifications where appropriate.

Summary of the Terms and Conditions of Employment:

The post is offered on the Southport College contract for newly appointed lecturers. This consists of a normal working week of 35 hours, comprising duties consistent with the position of lecturer.

The postholder will be entitled to receive normal remuneration for all Bank and Public Holidays usually observed in England and Wales and to a further 236 hours holiday in each holiday year (1 September - 31

August). In addition there are a possible 8 extra days holiday awarded at the discretion of the College for efficiency purposes.

The postholder will be eligible to contribute automatically to the Teachers’ Pension Scheme (subject to qualifying conditions). Details of the scheme in operation can be found in the vacancies area of the
College’s website.

During their employment with the College the postholder will be expected to conduct themselves in a manner appropriate to the professional image of the College. They will be expected to provide a prompt and efficient service and to maintain appropriate standards of personal appearance at all times.

An enhanced disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) will be requested in the event of a successful application to this post.

Salary

£22,127.55 to £24,428.55 per annum * (for information purposes the full time/all year round salary equivalent ranges from £26,253.00 to £28,983.00 per annum).

*In order to ensure that employees who are employed on a term time only basis receive regular payments throughout the year, annual salaries are paid in 12 equal monthly instalments in line with the College’s leave year (1 September to 31 August).

Please note, in the event of an appointment, contractual change or termination of employment mid-way through the College’s leave year, the annual salary for the relevant leave year will need to be recalculated in order to ensure that the correct payment is received based on the projected working hours/weeks or actual working hours/weeks including any entitlement to accrued holiday pay.
