Job Title: People Business Partner, Distribution Centres

Reports to: Senior People Manager, Distribution

Department/Section:People Team

Location: Multi-site:- North Region Distribution Centre (NRDC), Pontefract & Stead House Distribution Centre, Darlington

Job Purpose

The primary purpose of this role is to partner the Distribution Centre Managers and site management team; to support in developing the capability of their people; provide generalist HR support and give strategic direction in line with business objectives, projects & other site initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

Recruitment & Selection
Provide professional support and advice on recruitment to line managers
Support the succession planning process through internal recruitment opportunities
With line managers, screen CVs and shortlist applicants and coordinate and support with interviews and assessment centres for bands 6-10. Over see the temp to perm process for Warehouse Operatives positions at band 10

Engagement & Retention

Build appropriate relationships across the site to drive a culture of feedback and continuous improvement to aid employee engagement
Support the site management team in building & maintaining strong relationships with union and employee representatives; including attending regular meetings, promoting collaboration and transparent two-way communication
Drive internal communications across the site ensuring key site and business messages are cascaded in the appropriate form; utilising annual communication plans; local notice boards, briefings and the Hub.
Work with the line managers to implement effective strategies that manage the sites People KPI’s including labour turnover and absence

Performance Management

Ensure the PDR process is fully embedded across the site, coach managers through the process so they are fully bought in to the process to maximise output
Conduct the OCR (Organisation Capability Review) and 9 box grid assessment together with the Operations Manager to identify Succession strength and development needs
Work closely with the Line Managers to action any development opportunities or support them to manage poor performance through the PIP process
Have a visible, live and up to date succession plan in place for the management team
Support the Operations Manager in building relevant & meaningful targets and objectives for the site team in line with the Supply Chain and Transport Values and core business objectives

Employee Relations

Ensure line managers are effectively briefed on any relevant changes to company policies and procedures
Confidently advise on all ER issues and be actively involved in managing the processes from start to finish including performance improvement, disciplinary, grievance and absence for all high-level cases
Seek support from the Employee Relations Team where required to set direction for the company’s employee relations policies and practices
Support and be involved in ET claims where applicable
Promote equality of opportunity and enhance the diversity of the workforce
Ensure that systems & data are utilised, stored and distributed in line with current GDPR and GMS and support the Management team in this process

Training & Development

Work in partnership with the site management team to carry out TNA’s (training needs analysis), coordinating and/or running relevant training and development workshops
Work in conjunction with site management and the central L&D team where necessary; to proactively manage employee training and development at all levels across the site

Workforce Planning

Work in partnership with the site management team to ensure the site structure meets business needs and supports business change or growth
Work in partnership with the site management team to ensure work processes are value adding and drive efficiencies where possible

Developing effective teams

Coach and mentor the People Advisor and People Admin Team to be effective and efficient in their roles.
Develop stretching PDR objectives for People Advisors to support development
Effectively Line manage your team (People Advisor and People Admin team)

Key Health and Safety Responsibilities

Support the site H&S Advisor in driving effective H&S initiatives on site
Attend monthly H&S meetings and work with the Line Managers & H&S Advisor in actioning policies, practices & training that promote a safe workplace
Coach & support the Management team and H&S team on complex H&S issues that demand remedial action.
Person Specification
Essential
Depth of People experience with a strong track record in generalist HR
Experience of partnering within the Distribution/Manufacturing environment
Ability to build effective interpersonal relationships
Credibility to influence and coach a variety of stakeholders at all levels of the business
Ability to demonstrate leadership skills
Energetic with charisma and diversity

Desirable
The ideal candidate will be educated to degree level or equivalent.
CIPD qualified
Experience of working in a business partner role within a Unionised workforce environment
