Job Description

mirus are a non-profit organisation, established in Cardiff for over 30 years making a positive difference to the lives of people we support.

The service is made up of one Core & Cluster Supported Living Scheme (Canton) - There are nine flats, which will offer accommodation for ten people and one semi-supported accommodation.

You will be working with a diverse group of individuals with a range of needs including, learning and physical disabilities, health needs, mental health and behaviours that may challenge. You will be supporting people with a wide range of ages, interests, goals and aspirations. We have a large age rang with people supported in the late teens to people supported in their early 70's. You will be supporting people in to the world of work, education and vocation whilst helping build and maintain social and support networks across the community. Due to the nature of the service you will be expected to work a range of different shift patterns from days, sleep in shifts and waking nights.

I am an older lady who has lived in the Canton community for many years. I would like support around keeping myself safe, engaged and content in my community and at home. I love getting out and about and seeing familiar faces in my locale, popping to the local shops and cafes and taking trips in my car to seaside destinations. I love reading up on music, pop culture and listening to music; especially Punk and Golden Oldies! Sometimes my anxieties become hard for me to control so I would need my support staff to be patient, proactive, responsive and able to follow my guidelines that help keep me happy and content.

Someone of the people supported may display behaviours that can challenge, so applicants will need to be confident in dealing with tricky, unusual and complex situations. An ideal candidate would be able to wear several different hats in one day, adapting approaches for a variety of people within a single shift.

Key deliverables:

  • Has the ability to contribute to providing a high quality service and have a strong vision that can be applied to all aspects of your work.
  • Maintains professional working relationships with People We Support, families, members of Multi-Disciplinary Teams and other stakeholders.
  • Develops and adopts a person-centred approach to services and identifies individual goals and aspirations that enables the achievement of positive outcomes and increased independence.
  • Is confident and strong; can lead, direct and role model best practice to support staff to develop independence, develop skills and promote positive risk taking.
  • Can harness the skills and abilities of support staff to support them with their learning and development to fulfil their roles and responsibilities with a sense of achievement.
  • Communicates effectively and has good oral and written communication skills ensuring accurate records are kept.
  • Is able to manage their work time effectively and prioritise their workload whilst being flexible to adapt when necessary.
  • Is able to monitor and quality assure support services.

Essential criteria

  • Willing to be/is currently registered with Social Care Wales
  • To have completed QCF level 2 in Health and Social Care/ambitions to start.
  • Hold a UK driving License (Preferred).
  • willing to undertake a DBS.
