As part of our dedication to increasing our Eating Disorder offer, we are delighted to be able to offer a Band 6 trainee/development Eating Disorder Practitioner post working in the Adult Eating Disorder service in Staffordshire, Telford and Wrekin and Shropshire.

About the role

You will be part of the Eating Disorder community team (Stafford base) and will work closely with the Multi-Disciplinary team. You will be supported to complete a number of NICE guidance Therapies. Opportunity for career progression and upon successful completion of the Cognitive Behavioural Therapy – Eating Disorders (CBT-ED) course and has demonstrated associated Eating Disorder competencies, uplifted to a Band 7 Eating Disorder Practitioner. The course will be fully funded. You will receive supervision from an experienced Band 7 Eating Disorder Nurse/Practitioner, during your training.

The Eating Disorder service sits within the Specialist Services care group which provides inpatient and community services for adults.

In considering the precise banding of the trainee post, consideration will be given to the candidate’s previous experience and qualifications. Applicants will be required to have a mental health core qualification (Psychology/RMN/OT/SW)) and be registered with a professional regulatory body.

A willingness to engage in on-going professional development in order to deliver NICE guidance Eating Disorder therapies. The service is committed to support further study and practice towards accreditation as a CBT-ED Practitioner.

Training, study and work placements outside Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust maybe required. There will be no costs for the training incurred by the individual.

JOB PURPOSE:
Eating Disorders Service is a specialist service treating adults aged 18 plus, both male and female, with severe eating disorders including anorexia and bulimia nervosa. The post holder will conduct assessments and deliver NICE guidance Eating Disorder Therapies.

To work in conjunction with colleagues using a multi-disciplinary approach to eating disorder cases including offering specialist advice, consultation and supervision to colleagues both internal and external to the team and staff from other agencies where appropriate, contributing towards their professional development in this area of work.

As part of the MDT the post holder will contribute to the development of the Eating Disorders service as a whole and to actively participate in the overall management and planning of the service

To act as Care co-ordinator for Eating Disorder service users, as appropriate offering specialist assessment and treatment planning of service users referred. To offer advice, support and supervision to other health care professionals.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. To contribute to the specialist assessment and treatment planning of patients referred to the service

2. To manage a caseload of patients with eating disorders, and possibly co morbid conditions, in an out-patient and community setting which will include frequent reviews of risk, physical health status, care plans and treatment efficacy.

3. To be professionally and legally responsible for all aspects of their own work including the management of service users in their care.

4. To organise clinical work effectively with particular regard to clinical priorities and use of time.

5. To provide appropriate interventions to patients, according to the nature of their eating difficulty and the current clinical guidelines.

6. To monitor patients physical health and act accordingly.

7. To care co-ordinate patients with complex needs as appropriate.

8. To monitor, evaluate and modify treatment in order to measure progress, and to ensure effective intervention.

9. To ensure that outcome measures are used with all patients and the information gained used to improve service delivery.

10. To participate in the development and provision of group interventions for patients and carers.

11. To provide specialist advice to service users and their carers and offer information about resources available to service users within the community.

12. To provide specific community outreach interventions to individuals who have been identified as needing more intensive support to address a specific issue.

13. To work collaboratively and in conjunction with wider Adult Community Mental Health Teams.

14. To facilitate regular physical health monitoring clinics for individuals with complex severe and enduring eating disorders, requiring the interpretation of complex results

15. To contribute and facilitate to carers group programme

PROFESSIONAL/PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT

16. To receive clinical supervision and participate in appraisal and performance development.

17. To adhere to your professional code of professional conduct.

18. To ensure attendance at all Trust essential training.

19. To identify own development needs and set personal development objectives in collaboration with appraiser.

20. To demonstrate the achievement of competencies through the collection of evidence within a personal portfolio.

21. To participate in the orientation and induction of all staff new to the service.

22. To facilitate clinical supervision to junior members of the team.

23. To contribute to the experience of learners and to ensure delivery of mentorship requirements meeting professional registration standards for students.

24. To develop an environment that is conducive to learning, promoting staff development and involvement.

25. To evaluate the effectiveness of learning and development, informed by learners.

26. To take proactive steps to ensure that children and vulnerable adults are kept safe from abuse.

Communication/relationships

27. Communicate with service users and carers, all members of the multi-disciplinary team and staff in external agencies using a variety of methods including information technology.

28. Lead and communicate service users’ health status and care aims in care records and verbal/written reports to medics and other agencies.

29. Relate appropriately with service users, carers, colleagues and others at all times maintaining professional boundaries.

30. At all times ensure that own actions, support the equality, diversity, rights and responsibilities of individuals.

31. Communicate with service users regarding condition related information and support and encourage to overcome barriers to understanding using developed interpersonal skills.

32. To promote and develop robust communication networks and relationships in relation to Eating Disorders.

33. Communicate with all members of the multi-disciplinary team and staff in external agencies using a variety of methods including Information Technology.

34. Report and effectively communicate service user’s health status and care aims in care records and verbal reports to registered professional staff members and other members of the multi-disciplinary team.

Systems and Equipment

35. Timely use of the clinical health record to enter clinical notes to Trust standards.

36. Use e-rostering to request annual leave, duties, etc. and ESR to book training.

Decisions and Judgements

37. To work within clear guidelines and processes but will have autonomy and responsibility to plan and prioritise own work.

38. Be proactive in accessing individual supervision with agreed clinical supervisor in line with Trust policies.

39. Implement and maintain Trust Policies and Procedures.

40. Plan and organise own daily activities in line with service need.

41.Observes personal duty of care in relation to equipment and resources used in course of work.

Physical demands of the job

42. Standard keyboard skills required for inputting data onto the clinical health record

Physical Effort

43. There is a frequent requirement for light physical effort for several short periods during a shift.

44. Occasional requirement to exert moderate physical effort during shifts.

Mental Effort

45. The nature of the patient group is such that the post holder will be required to concentrate when assessing / engaging / observing / implementing programmes of care and will need to be able to address interruptions from other patients / staff as necessary.

Emotional Effort

46. The post holder will be frequently exposed to emotional or distressing circumstances. There is occasional exposure to highly distressing or highly emotional circumstances.
