Job Description
A Carer/Support Worker is required for 10-15 hours per week to support a 19-year-old young man with physical and learning disabilities, joining an existing care team in a fun, busy household where parents run their own business – this is a great opportunity for someone enthusiastic, adaptable and with a practical, common-sense approach.
The young man attends college so we would be looking for approximately 15 hours a week during term time, with the potential for additional hours during the holidays and occasional overnights. Flexibility with working hours would be an advantage, as would the ability to work a Saturday or Sunday.
Ideally we are looking for someone with experience in the care sector, and/or with young people. Experience in physiotherapy/muscle therapy and learning difficulties would be an advantage.
Duties include: getting the young man out of bed, assisting with washing, toileting and all aspects of personal care, dressing, feeding and getting ready for college, attending therapy appointments and continuing the therapies in the home setting. In addition assistance would be required with household duties, laundry, cooking, shopping, outings etc.
Hours to be mutually discussed and agreed, to work in with the existing team.
The rate of pay is from £13 per hour depending on experience.
The young man is very rewarding to work with- he is happy, easy-going and engaging, and although non-verbal he is vocal, communicative and always cheerful. He is a wheelchair user but is able to walk with adult assistance.
The Support Worker must have access to a vehicle due to the rural location, which is nearer Malton than York, and would ideally live local to the area.
A DBS is required for this position.
