This is an exciting opportunity to join the Road Safety Support Unit within Avon and Somerset Police.
The Road Safety Support Unit (RSSU) bring Road Traffic offenders to justice. In the role of Crime Support Officer you support the various teams in the RSSU including the Collisions Unit & Speed Enforcement Unit. You will be traveling around the Force area attending homes of victims following incidents to provide support, and to obtain statements from both witnesses and victims following road traffic collisions.
We're not asking for you to have worked in a similar role previously, but you’ll need to have strong interpersonal and communication skills.
The role will require you to work on your own initiative to obtain evidence such as statements and CCTV recordings, you will prepare this evidence for the Crown Prosecution Service. You will compile reports and statements and update relevant computer records.
Main responsibilities will include:

Interviewing witnesses and obtain statements using technical equipment as necessary.

Writing reports and statements of evidence.

Assisting in the preparation of prosecution or other evidential files for the Crown Prosecution Service, Coroner or other relevant authority.

Updating manual and computer records.
Skills and experience:

You'll need experience of report writing or statement taking.

Ability to prioritise your workload and work independently .

Excellent interpersonal and customer facing skills with a professional telephone manner.

You must be a confident IT system user.
Work location:
You’ll benefit from hybrid working across your home address and the office (the office located in Portishead, near Bristol). As well as regular travel across the force area. Working arrangements will be discussed with the successful candidate.
