Are you a skilled phlebotomist? Are you a caring, committed person with knowledge of working with patients?

Are you keen to develop your skills and work as part of a dedicated team to deliver a high quality phlebotomy service?

The children's hospital has vacancies for Phlebotomists the applicant would need to be able and willing to travel between sites at both our Queens medical centre and City campus and other clinics within the service.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be an integral member of the team delivering the Trust-wide phlebotomy service. This will include:

Undertaking venepuncture in inpatient, outpatient and clinic settings within the Trust, documenting patient information and tests required as appropriate.

Setting up combined Phlebotomy clinics to provide support for the specialist services within the Children’s Hospital

Working with existing Phlebotomist to look at expanding the service within Family Health.

The children’s hospital is housed within the Queens medical centre campus and has 116 inpatient beds across 8 inpatient wards covering all specialty’s, with many of our specialty’s being regional centres as well as two neonatal intensive care units one based at our City hospital campus.

You must be hold an English and Maths qualification at GCSE Level C or above or equivalent and possess excellent communication skills.

It is preferable that you have previous experience of working in a busy NHS environment and ideally have undertaken a period of formalised Phlebotomy Training in a previous role.

Essential criteria

  • GCSE grades A-C or equivalent in English and Maths

Desirable criteria

  • Willingness to undertake further training including relevant NVQ in healthcare
  • Willingness to undertake training on recording and taking of requested basic observations. (Height/weight/blood pressure/urine test.)

Physical skills

Essential criteria

  • Must be active and mobile.
  • Able to work for long periods whilst standing

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Knowledge of the Phlebotomy role
  • Undertaken a period of formalised Phlebotomy Training in a previous role
  • Evidence of achievement of competency based training programme and utilisation of skills within last 6 months

Desirable criteria

  • NHS experience or similar health care environment
  • Knowledge of the phlebotomy service.

Communication and relationship skills

Essential criteria

  • Computer literate (able to use MS Outlook, MS word, enter data onto excel spread sheets)
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Evidence of the ability to work as part of a team
  • Evidence of ability to adhere to standards, policies and procedures.
  • Good understanding of dealing with confidential issues.
  • Ability to deal with exposure to distressing situations.=

Analytical and judgement skills

Essential criteria

  • Ability to work under pressure

Desirable criteria

  • Evidence of the ability to work on own initiative

Planning and organisation skills

Essential criteria

  • Ability to complete own work load
  • Evidence of the ability to prioritise tasks and manage own time effectively

  • Demonstration of organisational skills to book patients into relevant appointment slots

Salary: The quoted salary will be on a pro rata basis for part time workers.

ID and Right to work checks: NUH authenticate all ID and right to work documentation such as passports, visa’s and driving license through a system called Trust ID. NUH will scan your ID and right to work documentation in to the Trust ID system at your face to face ID appointment. The system will run a check against the key security features within your documentation. The system will provide us with an outcome of your check which will be stored securely on your personal file along with all other pre-employment check documentation.

Consent:

  • Transfer of information: If I have previous NHS service - I consent to the transfer of my Electronic Staff Record (ESR) data between this and other NHS Trusts. I also consent to the Occupational Health Department confidentially accessing my occupational health records from my current or previous employer in order to check the status of my vaccinations, immunisations s and screening tests as relevant to the post. I understand this is an automated process and the information will only be used for these purposes prior to me taking up the position at NUH.
  • Disclosure and Barring Service: Your post maybe subject to a DBS check which incur a cost dependent on the level of check required (£41.90 for enhanced and £21.90 for standard). I agree to reimburse Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust the cost of a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check if it is required (by deduction from first month’s pay). Should I decide to withdraw from my job offer, I agree to reimburse Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust the cost of the DBS check undertaken by cheque or other agreed method.
