OverviewIf you’re passionate about making a difference to injured workers and want to take your experience making adjudicative decisions to the next level, then we’d like to hear from you.As a long-term disability officer, you’ll be responsible for managing and adjudicating claims involving functional award entitlement for partial and total disabilities. In this role, you'll be reviewing and assessing file information and evidence, determining the potential existence of loss of earnings, reassessing and adjusting established pensions as required and communicating pension award decision.This is a temporary role for 8 months.How you’ll make a difference You’ll ensure people with permanent work-related disabilities get the benefits they need.At WorkSafeBC, we offer a hybrid work model that combines the convenience of working remotely with the dynamism of working in one of our offices based on the operational needs of the position.In this role, you’ll work primarily from home and occasionally in our Richmond, B.C., office.What you'll doReview claim files to determine permanent functional impairmentsDeny awards assessments, reassessments, or entitlement in the event of non-supporting evidenceImplement the Appeal Boards’ decisionsAssess the disability award based on medical and related information, obtaining additional information if neededDetermine appropriate payment terms, including advising clients of decisions reached with respect to their claim or commutation requestIs this a good fit for you?We’re looking for someone who can:Manage a complex, high-volume caseloadCommunicate clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing, to a variety of groups and individualsMaintain respectful relationships with individuals involving sensitive issuesGather and weigh evidence, determine relevant facts, and make a timely decision within prescribed guidelinesYour background and experienceAn undergraduate degree and a minimum of two years, within the past five years of experience making adjudicative decisions or applying law and/or policy to make decisionsExcellent verbal and written communication skillsProficient knowledge of Microsoft Office softwareImportant to knowBefore we can finalize any offer of employment, you must:Successfully meet the legal requirements under the Criminal Records Review Act to work with children and/or vulnerable adults.Confirm you’re legally entitled to work in CanadaWorkSafeBC’s COVID-19 Employee Mandatory Vaccine Policy is suspended effective January 9, 2023; however, we reserve the right to re-implement it in response to changes in the public health landscape, including public health orders.
