The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) implements the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), which is one of the biggest social reforms in the country since Medicare. As an Agency, we support more than 600,000 participants with a significant and permanent disability, and the families and carers of those living with disability. For many Australians, this will be the first time they receive the disability support they need. The NDIA is designed to enhance the quality of life and increase economic and social participation for people with disability and will mean a peace of mind for every Australian.A new role awaitsWe are looking for highly motivated professionals with accessible communications experience to join the NDIA’s Internal Communications Branch as APS6 Accessible Communications Advisor. This is a fantastic opportunity to leverage your professional experience and make a real impact in the lives of people with disability.The Internal Communications Branch provides strategic communications advice to support the NDIA to deliver the NDIS. It is responsible for development and implementation of multi-channel communications and engagement strategies to support key initiatives across the NDIA and for tailoring messaging to the right audience.The Accessible Communications Team sits in the Internal Communications Branch. The team will become accessible communication thought leaders and champion the uptake of accessible communications within the Agency. Team members will be collectively responsible for building Agency accessible communications knowledge and capability through best practice and evidence-based research, developing and embedding agreed minimum communication standards, delivering accessible communications training, managing procurement of translation services and undertaking in-house translation of communications into accessible formats.Where you can add value The APS6 Accessible Communications Advisor is responsible for supporting the delivery of the Agency’s internal translation capability, enabling creation of accessible print, design, digital, tagging, Easy Read, plain English and other accessible communication products. You will have the opportunity to work on a diverse range of tasks that support the NDIA to be an accessible and inclusive employer, including but not limited to:Researching and developing best practice standards, policies and processes, further developing the Agency’s accessible communications minimum standards.Implementation of key program deliverables, including ongoing research, review, feedback and updating of accessible and inclusive communication products and learning and development materials.Developing and delivering face to face and online inclusive accessibility training workshops that improve the Agency’s accessible communications capability.Defining and testing current and emerging communications solutions using various accessibility testing tools and assistive technologies, whilst proactively identifying and mitigating risks within your area of responsibility.Collaborating with and contributing towards engagement activities with key internal stakeholders.Enough about us, let’s talk about youOur ideal candidate will have an innovative mindset and a passion for best practice accessible communication, engagement and capacity building strategies. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills to develop and maintain stakeholder relationships. To be successful in this role you are a team player with knowledge and experience operating autonomously and collaborating confidently at all levels.
