The Hospital is a teaching hospital of the UNSW and University of Notre Dame and has academic associations with the Australian Catholic University, Sydney University and the University of Technology, Sydney.What you'll be doingParticipation in delivery of high-quality personalised neurological care for inpatients and outpatients with complex immunological or haematological disease including MS, AHSCT for MS or neuroimmunological disease, amyloid and paraproteinaemic disorders, pre-assessment and complications of CAR-T cell therapy, complications of oncology treatment including checkpoint inhibitor therapy, immune or haematologically mediated peripheral nerve and muscle disease. While primary responsibilities are primarily clinical, participation in research is strongly encouraged.Applicants for this position should have completed two years of core training in Neurology with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. The duties and responsibilities of the position will include:Assessment of complex neuro-immunologic or - haematologic inpatients, interdigitating with specialties of immunology, haematology and oncologyAttendance to the weekly AHSCT for MS and neuroimmunological disease and the weekly neuro­ oncology clinicAttendance to the multi-disciplinary Amyloid clinicWeekly Neurophysiology clinic with an emphasis on immune/haematology mediated diseases; enabling fulfilment of Level 2-3 Neurophysiology accreditation.The position will allow the opportunity to participate in research including the established AHSCT clinical trials as well as the international MS Base registry. Drs Massey and Carroll have active collaborations with the Garvan Institute focusing on translational research in MS and Guillain Barre Syndrome and with the VCCRI/Kinghorn Cancer centre focusing on translational research and clinical trials in amyloidosis and paraproteinaemic disorders. The neuroimmunology fellow will be instrumental to these research projects.The Fellow will be required for duties outside normal working hours by arrangement.The Fellow will work within the framework of the philosophy and policies of the Hospital will provide and maintain a high quality of individual patient care. The position will promote learning of those skills deemed necessary and desirable for the practice of Australia and New Zealand Association of Neurologists (ANZAN). The Neuroimmunology Fellow will participate in teaching for junior medical, nursing and allied health staff assigned to the Department, also to supervise and complete accurate and comprehensive medical records. The Fellow should participate in all aspects of the care and investigation of patients under the direct care of the Department and those persons seen in consultation by members of the Department.The Fellow is delegated responsibility and authority to provide safe, effective and individualised patient care both directly and through the allocated junior medical officers by teaching and directing, supervising and ensuring their performances. The duties of the Neuroimmunology Fellow include ensuring that all inpatients and outpatients seen and properly evaluated promptly, including those requiring admission to Hospital. As some patients are admitted via the Emergency Department, a rapid response to requests for assessment from Emergency is essential.
