Job Description
As a Labourer II in Pothole and Deep Strength, Asphalt Road Maintenance, you will play a crucial role in maintaining and enhancing Edmonton's roads. Working under the guidance of dedicated supervisors, you will utilize a variety of hand and power tools, operate motor vehicles, and manage other equipment to ensure all assigned tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.What will you do?Operate power tools, hand tools and small equipment, such as chainsaws, tampers, mowers, jackhammers, blower packs, generators etc.Construct, repair and clean auxiliary assets, such as fences, railings, streetscape etc.Assist in the maintenance and construction of wooden sidewalks, stairs, bollards, fences and guardrails, noise walls, retaining walls etc.Manual or mechanical snow and ice clearingLoad and unload material from truck to work site, and vice versaAssist with flagging procedures and yard duties when requiredAssist with digging holes and trenchesOperate light delivery vehicles to transport material and suppliesWork independently when familiar with duties, as well as part of a teamRead and interpret surface grading plans and drawingsPerform work within standard safety and environment requirementsPerform other related duties as requiredQualificationsCompletion of Grade 101 year of experience in potholes, specifically working with winter asphaltEmergency First Aid CertificateAssets:Completion of the Back to Basics Asphalt SeminarSupervisory experienceCompletion of 2 ton roller trainingClass 3 driver’s licenseSkills required for success:Knowledge of methods, practices, materials, tools and equipment used in the construction and maintenance of specific work assignments, including the PARS Operating Procedures and SOP’sKnowledge of safety precautions and hazards involved in winter workAbility to use the necessary hand and power tools for work assignments, including the use of chainsaws, tampers, mowers, jackhammers, blower packs and generatorsSome experience working in a crew settingAbility and knowledge to complete a pre-trip inspection on correlating equipment required for the taskAbility to understand verbal and written instructions, provide exemplary customer service, and maintain simple recordsAdaptable to changing priorities dependent on managerial direction and/or weather, as well as the ability to work and make decisions in an independent mannerAlignment to our Cultural Commitments and Leadership Competencies ()Embracing a culture of equity, diversity, reconciliation and inclusionAlignment with the goals of the Environmental Management System EnvisoConditions of Employment:Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent).
