Full time, continuing role located across the different Laboratory Animal Services facility locations of Camperdown and St LeonardsOpportunity to provide research excellence through high level animal welfareBase Salary of $86,896 + 17% superannuationAbout the teamLaboratory Animal Services (LAS) is a professional service unit within the Research Portfolio. We are a team of Animal Technicians, Facility Officers and Veterinarians who provide day-to-day care for research animals, maintain animal research facilities, prioritise animal welfare and help ensure regulatory compliance on the Camperdown and St Leonards campuses.We work in partnership with researchers and faculties to provide services to support and enable high-quality biomedical research in areas including:Chronic DiseasesMolecular BiomedicineInfectionImmunity and InflammationCancerNeuroscienceMental healthObesityDiabetesCardiovascular diseaseAbout the opportunityAs the Animal Technician, you will provide and oversee animal husbandry services, and will monitor and implement relevant policies and procedures to ensure appropriate animal welfare standards and regulatory compliance is met in day-to-day operations.Your key responsibilities will be to:Provide sound technical research support and assistance to researchers, students and other technical staff working in the facilityMaintain accurate and up to date animal and facility recordsCommunicate concerns relating to animal welfare promptly and assist in resolving any issues as directedEnsure the animal facilities are compliant with Workplace Health and Safety and regulatory requirementsParticipate in an overtime roster providing routine inspections on weekends and delivery of essential animal husbandry tasks on public holidaysAbout youA qualification in a relevant field or the equivalent in training and experienceExperience in managing rodent breeding coloniesAnimal handling and animal care skills of a high standard, especially in relation to common laboratory species and experience with SPF principlesA commitment to animal welfare and to the use of animals in research conducted in accordance with the NSW Animal Research Act and a practical understanding of the outcomes sought by relevant regulatory codeAttention to detail with strong record-keeping skillsA willingness to work as part of a team and flexibility to work in any of Laboratory Animal Services’ facilities (including availability to work additional hours or to participate in a weekend roster as required)A valid Australian Driver’s License is desirableGeneral overall fitness with the ability to be able to lift and push up to 15kg.To keep our community safe, please be aware of our which form our conditions of entry for all staff, students and visitors coming to campus.Sponsorship / work rights for AustraliaPlease note: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
