At the City of Edmonton - City Operations, we strive to help our people achieve their professional and personal goals through an inclusive environment that values everyone’s contributions, appreciates diversity of thought, fosters growth and provides continuous opportunities for development.In the summer, you will work in the Leader II capacity with the Landscape Services team involved directly in providing daily leadership of staff ensuring enhanced services requested from stakeholders are delivered within the scope planned.In the Winter, you will be working in the Leader I role with Active Pathways (APR) providing field level supervision of snow and ice crews as well ass equipment operationDuties will include:Direct and supervising staff daily in the field; participates with the Supervisor, in evaluating staff, as well as providing feedback and effective recommendations into the disciplinary process of subordinatesProvide employee verbal performance managementCoach and mentoring field staff in a way that creates a culture for growth and developmentEvaluate the current capabilities and productivity of individual crew members and identifying training and development needsPromote a safe work environmentEnsure all staff are trained on all of the tasks and equipment that they are asked to use to perform their workField level monitoring and holding employees accountable for the performance of work performed, providing feedback as requiredSet performance expectations and escalating to SupervisorConduct and attending regular staff meetings, ensuring safety and cultural commitments are addressed, as well as section, work and culture expectationsDay to day crew leadership in a variety of related duties including but not limited to attendance, time reporting, coaching and assisting in the management of equipment and toolsLeads crew to various job sites in relation to predetermined schedules, assesses field conditions upon arrival, directs the setup of equipment and people power and initiates appropriate traffic control and related safety measures as requiredParticipates in equipment operations, labouring activities etc, as requiredEnsure appropriate and effective delivery of work, taking into consideration time, quality, cost/budgetOversee the training, scheduling and deployment of personnel to accomplish the work in compliance with OH&S Alberta, City OH&S Safety and Health standard, ENVISO program and City Standards Operating Procedures (SOP)Render professional advice, opinions, assistance and services to the supervisor and LD2 as requiredWork with the supervisor, to define and carry out the work plan for the area/districtUsing various software programs including, but not limited to: LMS, SDMS, Google Suite, SAP, GPS, ARCGIS etc.Reporting the completion of work based on predetermined routes through various tracking methodsPerform other duties as requiredQualificationsGrade 10 supplemented with training including:Making the Transition to SupervisorEssential Supervisory SkillsMinimum amount of 2 years of supervisory experience and 4 years of progressively responsible experience in parks maintenance, construction and operationsCompletion of Post Secondary Courses/Education, considered an assetPossession of a Landscape Pesticide Applicators License (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire) considered an assetDemonstrated ability to effectively and efficiently plan, assign, supervise and evaluate the work of subordinates.
