Vaughan is your place to grow.Position OverviewReporting to the Chief Training Officer, this position is responsible for assisting in promoting and supporting a corporate culture of continuous learning by contributing to the City's strategic objectives for service excellence. This includes designing, delivering, evaluating and monitoring training curriculum/programs to successfully prepare Vaughan Fire and Rescue Service staff to deliver safe and efficient services to our residents. The Training Officer will co-ordinate and conduct fire training programs to establish competence for specific licensing, certifications, upgrading and/or renewals as assigned. You will be responsible for assessing staff performance; evaluating training programs and initiatives and recommending innovative changes/enhancements to meet department needs. Recording/maintaining current, accurate records of conducted training. Gathering and analyzing training data as required. Remaining current on national, provincial and local requirements in the field of fire training education, as well as technological changes to improve effectiveness of training. Assessing staff performance by upholding professional competency and development.Qualifications and ExperienceRequired Qualifications:Post Secondary School training in the field of firefighting, or possess an equivalentcombination of training, education and experience that provides the necessaryknowledge, skills, and abilities to perform all aspects of this position successfully.Certification in NFPA 1001 Firefighter Level I & II with IFSAC and/or Proboard seals (proofof OFM Grandfathering acceptable).Certification in NFPA 1041 Fire Service Instructor Level I & II with IFSAC and/or Proboardseals (proof of OFM Grandfathering acceptable).Certification in NFPA 472 or 1072 Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations withIFSAC and/or Proboard seals.Must be able to perform all the duties of suppression firefighter as required.Must possess and maintain a valid Ontario driver's license Class 'D' with 'Z' endorsementand provide a satisfactory driver's abstract.Must provide a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector security clearance from an accredited policeservice.Successfully complete York University Firefighter Medical Examination and OccupationalSpecific Fitness Assessment.Must possess valid Standard First Aid and Level C CPR certification at minimum.Experience:You have experience in instructing/demonstrating and participating in areas of specializedrescue training/instruction.Demonstrated knowledge of various teaching techniques and ability to create lesson plansand guides.Demonstrated experience in developing, delivering and evaluating training programs tomeet legislative, municipal and industry standards.Strong knowledge of Industry Standards used in developing training programs.Proficient computer skills; thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and firedepartment management software (e.g. Firehouse, Vector Solutions).Demonstrated ability in a variety of learning mediums including electronic presentationtechnologies, integrated multimedia, on-line learning technologies, videoconferencing,classroom design, use of e-learning tools and applications.Exceptional oral/written communication, presentation, listening, consultation, facilitation,and relationship skills.Demonstrated knowledge of the operation and maintenance of all equipment andapparatusConsidered an Asset:Post Secondary training/education in adult learning.Solution oriented self-starter with the ability to multi-task, prioritize, and show flexibility.A working knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety ActCertification in NFPA 1006 Technical Rescuer standards with IFSAC and/or Proboard sealsCertification in NFPA 1002 Chapter 5 Fire Apparatus Operator - Pumping Apparatus withIFSAC and/or Proboard sealsWhen applying for this position and uploading your cover letter/resume, you must also include copies of the following documents:NFPA 1001 Firefighter Level I and II with IFSAC and/or Proboard seals (proof of OFMGrandfathering acceptable).NFPA 1041 Fire Service Instructor Level I and II with IFSAC and/or Proboard seals (proofof OFM Grandfathering acceptable).NFPA 472 or 1072 Hazardous Materials Awareness & Operations with IFSAC and/orProboard seals.Standard First Aid & Level C CPR (note - Level C is minimum requirement).Failing to upload these supporting documents at time of application will disqualify you from this process.In addition to offering a competitive compensation package, we have a strong focus on health and wellness, including modern fitness facilities and family-focused benefits.
