Job Description

POSITION: SX̱EDJELI CHILDCARE SUPERVISORHOUR OF WORK: FULL-TIME, PERMANENT (35 HRS/WEEK)REPORTS TO: EDUCATION MANAGERWAGE: $28 to $32 per hourPOSITION SUMMARY: SX̱EDJELI Daycare center provides nurturing care and developmentally appropriate education to meet the needs of children in a group setting within a safe and healthy environment. Culture and Language are vital to program planning.The Childcare Supervisor oversees the program planning, working effectively with staff, working with families and children, connecting with the community, and assuming administrative responsibilities related to the day to day operations of the child care center. The supervisor works collaboratively with other early learning programs for SȾÁUTW̱ Education Departments which includes; Head Start and I,TOTELṈEW̱,ÁUTW̱ before and afterschool program.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESResponsible for ensuring that the centre meets all legal requirements, including licensing regulations.Assists in the development of childcare programs and keeps up-to-date on issues relating to program design and delivery.Records and reports accidents and serious occurrencesProvides supervision, leadership and guidance to the team.Monitors classroom Early Childhood Educators on a daily basis to ensure compliance with the Child Care Community Facilities Act (CCCFA) (which is licencing.) This includes ensuring a safe environment is provided for children in terms of their spiritual, physical, emotional and cognitive development.Communicates with parents and deals with questions or issues that arise.Respects confidentiality and relates to parents, children and other staff members in a professional and ethical manner.Responsible for updating policies and procedures required by the Child Care Community Facilities Act.Train staff on policies and procedures.Monitors staff to ensure forms are being completed and records are complete.Guides and assists children in activities, routines and transition times.Inputs attendance on a monthly basis and follows- up to ensure that accounts are up to date.Responsible for the review and documentation of staff behaviour management, according to the policies and CCCFA requirements.Prepares progress reports and discuss with parents and staff.Prepares and produces written documents to meet program information and communication needs.Makes arrangements for alternate pick up of late childrenMonitors and maintains different budgets from various funding sources.Updates schedules and plans for weekly staff meetingsArranges for substitute staff as neededVerifies staff time sheets and submitsInterviews potential clients, provides tours of daycare facility and registers children to ensure enrollment packages are completed.Attends and organizes weekly staff meetings and monthly with Manager.Maintains the health and safety of the children including implementing monthly fire drillsParticipates in SȾÁUTW̱ First Nation hiring committee as required.Other related duties may be assigned by the Education Manager.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEEarly Childhood Education Diploma or degreeStrong Supervisor skills with 2 years’ related experiencePossess extensive experience with administrative duties and reportingRegistered member in good standing with the College of Early Childhood EducationCurrent First Aid/CPR certificateVulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check is required as a condition of employmentKnowledge of Child Care and Early Years Act and licensing and legislative regulationsExperience working with infant to junior childrenSolid understanding of child developmentDemonstrates ability to maintain an effective work relationship with families, colleagues, service providers, and regulatory program advisorsExcellent oral and written communication skillsExceptional interpersonal skillsProficient with MS OfficeExperience with writing reports, and budget managementExperience with conflict resolution with staff, community or familiesProven ability to work closely with other team membersSensitivity and respect for individual and cultural differencesKnowledge of First Nations Culture and LanguageKnowledge of community considered an assetAdequate energy level and ability to meet the physical demands of the jobOTHER FACTORSCulture/LanguageRespect for and working knowledge of the SȾÁUTW̱ culture is required.Personal AttributesThe Childcare Supervisor maintains strict confidentiality in performing their duties and demonstrates the following personal attributes: Respect, Empathy, Strength, Pride and EqualityOur Benefits package includes:Medical insuranceDental insuranceVision insuranceLong-term disability insuranceLife insurancePreference may be given to qualified individuals of First Nation Ancestry.Apply now and join our team!Tsawout First Nation
