Recognizing that Black, Indigenous, and other Racialized communities have experienced inequities that have developed historically and are ongoing, we strongly welcome and encourage candidates from those communities to apply.Your opportunity:Reporting to the Manager, Technical Operations, the Technical Director works in all areas of theatre production including scenery, set construction, props, costumes, audio/visuals and lighting. Duties include:supervising Front-of-House operations, loading in shows, hanging lights, running lights, visuals and audio for live performances, setting up portable visual, audio and lighting systems, working with rental groups, purchasing materials, consumables and equipment, picking up and delivering materials, scenic painting and set construction, set and lighting design, and supervising casual staff. The Technical Director is responsible for instructing students in theatre production techniques, supervising their work and maintaining a positive working environment. Safety is fundamental to this position and the Technical Director must demonstrate thorough knowledge of health and safety policy and safe working practices.Your responsibilities will include:Analyzing and recommending plans for new equipment and the use of technical spacesScheduling day-to-day production activitiesProviding detailed explanations and demonstrating technical procedures totheatre crewsTroubleshooting and resolving technical issuesApplying established standards when performing maintenance on theatre materials and equipmentCoordinating the assembly and installation of production elementsServing as a resource to a group or on a functionPlaying close attention to occupational safety precautionsEssential Qualifications:Advanced College Diploma (3 years) in a related field, or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.Three (3) years of production and technical theatre experience, in two or more of the following positions: Set Designer, Lighting Designer, Costume Designer, Sound Designer, Head Carpenter, Stage Manager, Technical Director, Production Manager, including at least one (1) year experience in supervision, training, or instruction of students.Must have demonstrated experience of drafting and design ability.Demonstrated stage scenery construction ability.Knowledge and familiarity with theatrical audio, video and lighting equipment.Computer knowledge: lighting design, operation, and trouble shooting skills with lighting boards and control systems; audio/visual software/hardwareknowledge, basic word processing skills; familiarity with a spreadsheet program; strong CAD abilities.Strong working knowledge and ability to train others in the safe and effective operation of equipment and tools.Applicants are also expected to show evidence of a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and the promotion of a respectful and collegial learning and working environment.Assets (Nonessential):Video design experience.Venue management experience.To be successful in this role you will be:AccountableDecisiveMulti-taskerOrganizedResponsibleTeam playerClosing Date: 08/08/2024, 11:59PM ETEmployee Group: USWAppointment Type: Budget - ContinuingSchedule: Full-TimePay Scale Group & Hiring Zone:USW Pay Band 09 -- $65,407 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $83,646.
