The Research Solutions Architect will lead all aspects of the technical planning, building, and running of UTM's IT research offerings, including High-Performance Computing (HPC)offerings and Research Storage. Working closely with research faculty and staff, you will continue to enable and advance UTM's world-class research.As a Research Solutions Architect, you will be a principal subject matter expert within UTM's I&ITS Infrastructure and Operations team. You will make strategic recommendations and hold tactical and operational oversight of UTM's I&ITS research offerings. This will require combining deep technical experience and knowledge, business analysis skills, and the ability to effectively build relationships with research faculty and leadership. You will be vital in ordinating efforts of other teams and stakeholders to ensure alignment with the campus vision towards UofT's overall mission -- to continue to deliver innovative and cutting-edge research solutions.Your responsibilities will include:Advising clients and technical subject matter experts on best practices for documenting system requirementsAnalyzing business and operational requirements to plan the implementation of new IT systemsAnalyzing and configuring highly complex enterprise applications and servicesDeveloping and updating architectural framework for highly complex and confidential university-wide IT systemsResearching, analyzing and recommending potential changes to system featuresLeading and planning IT projectsDefining requirements and scope of complex projects with broad impact and long-term consequencesEssential Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.Minimum eight years of hands-on system administrator experience in a complex and heterogeneous environment comprising Windows Server, CentOS, and Ubuntu Linux systemsMinimum eight years of hands-on experience implementing and managing datacenter infrastructure including servers and networkingMinimum five years of hands-on experience implementing and administering moderate/large scale, multi-user research compute cluster(s) with industry-standard tools, like Bright cluster management, Slurm and both open- and closed-source applicationsMinimum five years of hands-on experience implementing and managing large, scalable storage solutions such as object-based storage or clustered file systemsMinimum five years of hands-on experience working with containers such as Docker or Apptainer/SingularityMinimum two years of experience working with GPUs, including NVIDIA's data center platformsDeep understanding of Software Development Life Cycles, system and application security hardening, vulnerability assessment and enterprise patch managementKnowledgeable in PythonExcellent organizational, time management, prioritization and delegations skillsAbility to plan and perform major, complex implementations within ITSM and ITIL Change Management standardsAbility to solve complex technical and logistical problems and communicate, both verbally and in writing, effectively with non-technical teamsExperience creating, expanding, and maintaining relationship with vendorsAssets (Nonessential):ITIL foundations level (or higher) certificationDemonstrated experience working in a structured change management environment (CAB or equivalent body)Familiarity with Statistical suites such as SPSS, MatLab, SASExperience working with the ServiceNow platformFamiliarity with the University environment, governance, and policiesExperience with datacenter supporting infrastructure, including power and cooling managementTo be successful in this role you will be:AccountableDecisiveDiplomaticGoal orientedProblem solverTeam playerClosing Date: 07/25/2024, 11:59PM ETEmployee Group: USWAppointment Type: Budget - ContinuingSchedule: Full-TimePay Scale Group & Hiring Zone:USW Pay Band 18 -- $112,241 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $143,537.
