Your leadership will directly contribute to the safety and functionality of our city's roadways, enhancing the quality of life for citizens of the City of Edmonton.What will you do?Supervise and run crews; from the perspective of the daily oversight of labour, equipment and materials required to complete Asphalt Repair (Pothole & Complex Repair, and Utility Cuts)Assist with the planning of various roadways maintenance activities in conjunction with supervising leadersAssist with estimates of crew size, equipment requirements, and productivity objectivesSet performance expectations, monitor the performance of staff, provide feedback as required, complete performance appraisals, conduct performanceControl safety measures, respond to unforeseen changes in work site conditions, weather conditions, crew injury, equipment breakdown or malfunction, and material shortages and refer unusual situations to the attention of the Roadway Maintenance Supervisor or District Leader IIEnsure all City OH&S Safety Standards, Policies and Procedures are implemented, enforced and followed; and that safety is the first priority in work executionPartake in manual labour and provide work direction to ensure that completed work meets standards of productivity and qualityPerform Snow and Ice Control program task as requiredOther related duties as requiredQualificationsGrade 12 or GEDA minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible experience in road maintenance, construction and operationsAssets:Completion of Post Secondary CourseworkCompletion of Asphalt Repair trainingMake the Transition to Supervisor and Essential Supervisory Skills trainingEmergency First Aid CertificateExperience in winter pothole maintenanceSkills required for success:Demonstrated ability to effectively and efficiently plan, assign, supervise and evaluate the work of subordinatesKnowledge of heavy equipment operation, maintenance and repairKnowledge of the PARS Operating Procedures and SOPsKnowledge of the hazards and safety precautions related to the maintenance operationDemonstrated supervisory skills and abilityDemonstrated excellent customer service and communication skills both written and verbalAbility to follow work plans for timeliness, quantity, quality, productivity, unit costing and accomplishmentsAlignment to our Cultural Commitments and Leadership Competencies () * Embracing a culture of equity, diversity, reconciliation and inclusionAlignment with the goals of the Environmental Management SystemConditions of Employment:Valid Alberta Class 3 Driver’s Licence with Air Brakes Endorsement (or provincial equivalent).
