The purpose of this Research Data Analyst position is to provide quantitative data analysis support for a wide array of research studies. The majority of the work of this position will entail working with the study investigators to finalize a statistical analysis plan for each research question/manuscript, manipulating source data to prepare analytic datasets, preparing the final analytic datasets, conducting the intended analyses, regularly maintaining data analysis memos, reporting the results in needed formats (e.g., tables or figures for manuscripts), and working with the study team members to optimize interpretation of findings to dissemination of results from data perspectives. The position may have some overlap with data management elements, such as programming of questionnaires in REDCap or data quality checks to ensure optimal quality and accuracy of data. The position may also have some overlap with manuscript development and grant writing and support as needed by the study teams.Position Complexities:This position will entail a broad range of activities, from working independently and resourcefully to successfully execute tasks, to working collaboratively in the team to achieve goals, attending ranges of meetings from one-on-one with the lead investigator for any one research question/manuscript on as needed basis to large team meetings on a regular basis, to joining dissemination meetings, conferences, or learning sessions on as needed basis. Not only does the position require high aptitude with data elements, but it also requires high aptitude in both oral and written communication (particularly in helping to write methods and statistical analysis sections of manuscripts).Position Dimensions and Impact to the University:This position provides assistance to Principal Investigators and other research staff which is crucial to the UW maintaining its reputation as a research leader.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESData management: (85%)Database cleaning and organizationData abstraction from the EMRLarge data transfers and complex data management in SQLGenerate reports from clinical databasesHigh-dimensional statistical analyses (e.g. clustering, dimension reduction, visualization)Complex data queries of electronic health records to allow for direct import into case report formsIntegration of molecular and other biologic data into structured datasets, quality control protocols, development of SOPs for biologic and clinical data integrationCreate, manipulate, and merge large and complex datasetsTransform and format datasets for use in analysesImplement statistical programs using STATA, SAS, and/or R and parallel computingDevelop reusable functions in these statistical software packages, document and package code and follow standards for reproducible researchPerform quality checks and quality assurance measures to ensure results accuracyProblem-solve computational and analytic challenges by investigating and rectifying data issuesWork directly with researchers to develop alternative analytic strategies in response to challengesDevelop and maintain study protocolsPublications and presentations (15%)Create text, tables, figures, and charts for presentations and publicationsProvide referencing and other support for publications and presentationsLead Responsibilities:Give statistical support as needed in order to accomplish needed tasks, assist in delegating tasks up or down to other study team members as needed, developing and pacing team through timelines.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSBA degree in biostatistics, informatics, or related field plus a minimum of two years of experience.Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTSExperience in Python, R, SQLExcellent communication skills and ability to translate complex research questions into statistical questionsApplication Process: The application process may include completion of a variety of online assessments to obtain additional information that will be used in the evaluation process.
