Internal/External Employment OpportunityPosition: Community Health RPN – Consumption and Treatment SiteComponent/Team: OasisStatus: Casual (No guaranteed hours)Salary Scale: $27.89 - $33.59 hourly plus 4% vacation pay in lieu of benefitsStart Date: ImmediatelyAPPLICATION DEADLINE: July 31, 2024 at 4:00 p.m.Position Description:The Community Health RPN, CTS is a member of the Oasis team and works closely with team members to provide the highest possible quality of health care services to clients.The role of the Community Health RPN, CTS is to work with clients to help them achieve their desired health goals by conducting nursing assessments, health education/counselling and performing specific procedures related to supervised consumption including prevention, assessment and intervention, in the Consumption and Treatment Site and/or areas (outside CTS response) and standard assessments the RPN will collaborate in overdose interventions including assessment, naloxone and oxygen administration based on Centre protocols and according to the College of Nurses of Ontario standards of nursing practice.Reporting Relationship:The Community Health RPN, CTS is directly accountable to the Director, Consumption and Treatment Site for the carrying out of their duties and through the Director to the Executive Director.As a Community Health RPN, the incumbent is responsible to meeting the licensing and regulatory requirements of the College of Nurses as the professional governing body.RequirementsSkills, Education and Experience:Requirements for this position include:Education and LanguageCollege Diploma—Registered Practical Nursing ProgramCertificate of competence from the College of Nurses of OntarioOverdose intervention provided by SHCHCUnder the Centre’s designation to provide French Language Services this position is designated bilingual preferred (linguistic abilities in French considered essential):French (oral expression): Advanced +French (oral comprehension): Advanced +French (reading comprehension): IntermediateFluency in English, both oral and writtenProfessional ExperienceThree to five years nursing experience working with people with substance use disorder and/or mental health issuesExperience working within a harm reduction approachExperience working with a broad range of populations, including: people with HIV/AIDS, hepatitis C, street involved people, transgendered people, men who have sex with men, sex trade workers, people with mental illness, people with substance use disorder, and other marginalized groupsKnowledge, Skills and AbilitiesKnowledge of the impact of the social determinants of health on HIV, hepatitis C and substance use disorder and recoveryUnderstand how to apply harm reduction strategies within a clinical settingStrong interpersonal, organizational and problem-solving skillsEffective communication skills, including health educationAbility to work with people with concurrent disordersAbility to work as part of a multi-disciplinary care giving teamAbility to work within the mandate of the Sandy Hill Community Health Centre and the Oasis ProgramAbility to work under stress with multiple demands.Ability to work outside regular hoursProficiency in the use of computers and various software applicationsDemonstrated flexibility, good judgment, initiative & creativityRespects and values the diversity of communities and individualsSensitivity and alertness to signs of a client in crisisCommitment to and knowledge of community-based health careHours of WorkMust be available for shift work, including evenings and some weekends. Shifts will be based on a rotating six week schedule and will be 9.5 hours in length (excluding breaks)BenefitsIn lieu of benefits, 4% vacation pay is added to the hourly rate. Sandy Hill CHC provides staff the opportunity to enroll in our pension plan (Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan - HOOPP).Conditions of Employment:Hours of work will be developed in collaboration with the successful candidate to ensure a healthy work-life balance.
